Am i Crazy?

Kia, on September 24, 2020 at 5:01 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 27
I was on Pinterest looking at napkin folds when realized that the flatware my venue is going to use will most likely be silver. My charger plates are gold (From dollar tree) so I would prefer literally any other color flatware than silver. It just doesn’t look aesthetically pleasing to me AT ALL. Am I being crazy? Will people notice or care? I found some black and some gold flatware options I really like and I also looked into rental and found some as well, all prices are totally fine. But would it be crazy to bring my own flatware just to make the table look good lol?

Here’s some examples of gold place setting/silver flatware that look absolutely hideous to me and idk if I’m being picky or if it really does look weird.

Guests won't notice or care as long as there is silverware available

Honestly I think the silver flatware is perfectly fine. I don’t feel like it ruins the aesthetic

Have you asked your venue/caterer if they have a gold option? Like you, I wanted my flatware to match everything else, so I had my venue rent gold flatware.

I didn’t ask actually. I just assumed they would give me that information automatically. But now that I’m thinking about it, I had to ask about every other detail as well (like chairs) so they might actually have other options. Thank you!

I think you’ll be fine and if a guest has a problem with that then they’re just picking at that point.

Definitely ask! I had my venue provide certain flatware, glassware, chairs, & linens lol. I was picky and they gave me everything I wanted (at a price of course)!

As a guest, I have never noticed the color of the silverware. Unless this would truly bother you, I don't think this is something I would spend extra money on.

I think they are fine. Whether you see them as grey, and gold. Or silver, and gold, they are two neutrals. No problem.

I think hideous is a really strong word. But, hey, I get that we all have different taste. To me, silver/stainless flatware is a true neutral that goes with anything. Your guests will definitely not notice or care. But if YOU care this much, you have found an alternative, and it's within your budget, there's no reason not to get the flatware you prefer.

I was in the same boat and decided a month before the wedding that I didn’t want to regret looking back on my photos and see silver flatware next to my gold chargers. Haha Looking back on it, it was completely ridiculous and extra of me, but I do like the way my pictures and table looked.

If you’re worried about regretting not getting matching flatware and you found an option that will work, I say go for it! Smiley smile

As a guest, the only time I’ve ever noticed flatware was when it was gold- and it wasn’t in a nice way, more that it stood out as being strange!
Are you setting out each piece individually like the picture? Because if it will be rolled or partially folded into a napkin then it will show even less.

I’m in the same position (gold chargers and venue provides silver flatware). I’ve been obsessing over it for months now and finally decided to rent gold flatware. I know it’s considered an “unneeded cost”, but I am very detail oriented and I know it would drive me crazy during our reception and every time I looked at pictures.

Okay great because the only reason I’m freaking out is because of photos lol

Depending on when your wedding is, I would double check with your venue. My venue used plastic silverware and I didn’t even know they were doing that until the day of. Everything was disposable.

WOW I’m so sorry that happened. We postponed; it was supposed to be two weeks ago. We postponed back in March so it’s next September now

No one will notice, and even if someone did, mixed metals are super popular right now!

Yeah, definitely do it then! I look back at my pics and love how everything turned out. I actually had a few people compliment the decor and how everything matched. So some people definitely noticed 😂

You're not crazy - but also I doubt anyone will notice! Especially since people expect silverware to be silver!! I always notice if the flatware is gold or a special style because it stands out as cool & different, but I can't think back and remember ever noticing that my fork didn't match my charger! 😉

I also rented gold charger plates and had all gold everything (gold ink on all our invites, gold sequin tablecloths, etc.), but used silver flatware. At that point I was beyond my budget and just couldn't justify another 2k on gold utensils. 😢

Here's what my table settings looked like:
