Am i ordering way too many flowers.

Jo, on February 13, 2018 at 3:01 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 5

Ok, so I've got a list of floral arrangements that I need (I'm DIYing all of them with some serious help from family)

16 table centerpieces, bridal bouquet, 3 bridesmaid bouquets, 4 boutonnieres, 1 wreath for church door, arch decor (probably 140 stems), 16 small arrangements for end of pews.

I would way rather have too many flowers than too little, but do you guys think ordering 900 stems is excessive? I can make a few more arrangements for around the reception, but I wouldn't like to put a ton of flowers to waste.

Oh! I totally forgot about my garlands. 4 garlands, 6 feet long each with greenery and flowers along the whole length.

To me, the more flowers the better. But that's just me. 😂

I don't think there's such a thing as too many flowers either..it helps set the mood of the event. I plan on having tons of flowers also and then giving them to family members when they leave so they can have pretty bouquets for at home afterwards.

I think it depends on the size of the blooms and the size of the arrangements. 900 peonies is probably too many. 900 carnations might not be enough. Where did you order from? They will probably be able to give you the best help on this. I would look at arrangements of similar sizes to what you want and calculate based on how many of each of the blooms you see (i.e. a bridal bouquet might have 3 peonies, 6 cream roses, 6 pink roses, 6 spray roses, greens, and fillers. etc.) this might be tedious but that is what I would do.

ETA: Also need some for any that break or have wilted. Have you ever done anything like this before? I am considering it but I will need about half the arrangements that you do. This is going to be a huge project.

The centerpieces are going to be mid-sized, and unfortunately the website doesn't have a lot of information. I think I will definitely go through my pinterest board and count flowers.

I haven't done anything on this large of a scale before, but I have unlimited access to my venue the day before my wedding, plus a GINORMOUS family. The rough headcount for now is 26 people who have agreed to come to the venue the day before the wedding to help set up.

Thanks for the flower-counting idea! And it's definitely a good idea to order extra just in case some of them wilt or break.
