Am I Overreacting?

Valerie, on June 9, 2021 at 1:02 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 10
My venue has a beautiful entrance with an overheard sign with their name lit up. But part of their sign has been broken since April. I reported it back in April and was told “their sign guy was made aware and it’s being fixed.” In May, I emailed about the sign. In June I spoke to someone at the venue face to face about it and he said he’s been trying to get someone out to fix it but there have been super busy and even said someone was supposed to fix it that same day. Apparently he (venue owner) only has 1 guy he trusts with this kind of thing. He apologized and said he knows it’s an eye sore because I told him it cheapens the entrance of the place and takes away from the elegance. My wedding is coming up soon and it’s still not fixed!!! And we wanted to take pictures at grand entrance. Ugh!!! How can ownership go this long without fixing this?

I don't think you're overreacting, but I'm also not sure if it's worth stressing about this when there's really nothing you can do about it. Hopefully the sign will be fixed soon.

I agree with others. That’s definitely annoying but they are aware of it and (hopefully) working to fix it. There really isn’t anything else you can do at this point.

You aren’t overreacting but it’s out of your hands if the owner refuses to be proactive about getting it fixed.

You aren’t overreacting it is awful that you have to deal with this so close to your wedding. I hope it gets fixed soon for your sake!

I agree. Also depending on your area the company or person that can fix the sign may be understaffed due to unemployment.

You are not overreacting at all! Imagine being a guest and driving up to a wedding venue and the first thing you see is a busted up sign.... you’re going to start noticing all of the flaws on everything else after that because the busted up sign will be your first impression.

I totally get it. We got married in a hotel lobby and where the table was for our sand ceremony hung two fancy looking candle holder things and during the one tour I noticed one was missing. I hated how it looked. Thankfully it was fixed on our wedding day, but there would've been nothing I could have done if it hadn't been.

I work in construction and raw materials are getting harder and harder to procure. It could be that they just need to wait until their installers have the material needed to fix it. You're definitely not overreacting, but your loved ones aren't going to think less of you or your wedding because of an entrance sign!

I actually do think you're over reacting because there is no sense in getting worked up over things you can't control. You just end up setting yourself up for disappointment. Unless you are going to offer to pay for the sign to get fixed or tell them you'll find a contractor to do it for them, its out of your hands. If its not fixed by the wedding, keep it turned off instead of lit up. You'll never be able to tell.

Ps- a sign being broken for 2 months is not a long time. Businesses have a million aspects of the business to take care of. Something like a light up sign is likely very far down the priority list as it doesn't affect their functionality.
