Am i the only one overwhelmed?!

Shanita, on August 1, 2019 at 2:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

I consider myself a planner and I've been planning so many details, but I get so overwhelmed thinking about everything I need to do and all the time I don't have to do it in lol. On top of that, my wonderful fiance is far from a planner...he's more of a free spirit so my sense of urgency and his lack of it...smh. I guess this is why we compliment each other so well. I wouldn't change it for anything.

PLUS...I feel like I;m getting on my friend's nerves talking about the wedding all the time. I need an outlet!!!

Please tell me I'm not alone

Not alone!! I feel overwhelmed sometimes and underwhelmed sometimes. I got through periods where I'm very focused on wedding planning and other times where I'm like meh who cares lol. Remember to talk to your friends about what's going on in their lives so you don't feel like you're talking wedding too much.. otherwise, comment on every single post on weddingwire. The ladies on here will not get tired of your wedding talk!!

13 months is plenty of time and WeddingWire is the perfect outlet! I would recommend using the checklist here on WW to keep yourself on task.

You're not alone!! That's what keeps many of us coming back here so often. We understand what you are going through, as we are all going through essentially the same thing. Plus, we understand that nobody will be as excited as you are about your wedding, and we all have friends/family who don't want to talk about our weddings all the time.

As for time, you seem to have a lot of it left, since your date says September 2020. That's still 13 months. Are you worried about something in particular? Or just don't feel organized? Wedding Wire has some good planning tools here, including the checklist. It gives a pretty good timeline for getting things done. I find that making lists helps me a lot. And trying to tackle one thing at a time is also helpful so I don't get overwhelmed.

What are you working on and/or worried about right now?

Do you have all your major vendors booked yet? Still doing research? Let us know more specifically what's up, and there are lots here who will help you sort it out. Happy planning!

Good because I feel like I'll be super active on here and you ladies can relate! I'm trying to find that balance, like you mentioned, and make sure that I remain involved in others things with my friends and it's not wedding overload for them. It's just my brain is always like (oh that's pretty can I use that for the weeding) lol

I'm really liking WW already. I started on the knot, but I didn't see any chat forums like this. Love it!

Aha I felt that too in terms of feeling like I'm getting on my friends nerves for talking about weddings so much - the good thing is you have wedding wire Smiley smile and so you can rant and ask questions here and we would listen because only other brides understand that level of excitement and stress for wedding stuff.

    Thank you!!

I think I'm most stressed about the budget. I think with the time we have and paying things off now we should be fine. But we were ambitious in being new homeowners (just closed in June) and right into wedding planning.

So I just put the deposit down for our Venue. I spoke to the caterer that we want to use this morning and we are locking her deposit down in 2 weeks. We chose a photographer and (prayerfully he is still available...he's somewhat trying to save the date for us) we will lock his deposit down mid next month.

Flowers are overwhelming me. I need a DIY option for this. I don't have the budget to spend much on flowers at all. I don't mind them being fake. I know some feel that's tacky, but I've seen fake flowers looks just as beautiful so I'm gonna roll with that.

Dress I'm overwhelmed about already and haven't started trying any on. I'm thick, curvy and SUPER busty. I don't want $1,000 in alterations. But I don't want to settle for just any dress either. And again, want to be within reason for the budget.

Centerpieces - I'm DIY challenged but I have a good team. I just need ideas!

    Annnd...taking a breath LOL

Thinking about it, yes it's lots of time to plan. I think I get in my own head and worry myself crazy lol. My fiance's God sister is a wedding planner and she came over to help get us started with stuff. When I showed her what I had in place already she said I was ahead of the curve...I guess I just don't feel like I am.

Oh and invitations...I'm definitely overwhelmed with those. I want to be budget friendly and be somewhat digital. But I know all of our family is not digitally advanced.

Yes, I think most of my stress comes from the budget as well. Worrying about if we're going to have enough time to pay for everything we want. But I made a plan, early on, and as long as we stick to it, we'll be fine.

For flowers, I'm going fake. I don't think it's tacky at all!! Real flowers are SUPER expensive, and they die. Try looking on Etsy. There are a lot of artificial flower vendors there. I was referred to one shop by another bride here on WW! Her shop is called DressMyWedding. Her flowers are beautiful, and her prices are VERY reasonable. I'm not doing any floral decor, just my bouquet, my 3BM bouquets, and Groom and 3GM bouts. Maybe a couple of corsages for FMIL and my auntie.

For dresses, you may want to consider getting a pre-owned dress. Most wedding dresses are worn only once, and there are a lot of brides selling dresses for a fraction of the price of new. One website I know about is: preownedweddingdresses.com and there is Facebook marketplace also. I see a ton of wedding dresses on sale there.

It's good you still have lots of time. I have found for myself that having more time means I can research all options in every category, until I find the right thing at the right price.

Try not to stress, and you can come here anytime to vent and ask questions. Happy planning!!

By digital, do you mean you want to do a paperless invite? Like an e-vite? I wouldn't recommend it for a wedding, especially if you have a lot of family who aren't tech savvy. But there are lots of places to get invites fairly inexpensively. Search these forums for this topic, there is a TON of information. I'm getting mine through Ann's Bridal Bargains. But there is also Minted, Shutterfly, VistaPrint, Zazzle, Invitations by Dawn, and the list goes on and on. Each company has their own deals, but most of the ones I listed have a big sale a couple times of year, and we try to keep each other informed of when those sales happen, so we can get the best prices.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I am going to check out those sites. I found a really pretty bouquet on Amazon also (they have everything) but I want to explore other options. I will definitely research them today. I'm checking out the pre owned dress site also thank you! The only place I knew to check for that was FB market.

This really is a great outlet and resource. Thanks so much Cristy!

    Yes and Yes

Shanita, I'm in Alaska, my FH just relocated from CA to NY and our wedding is in the VI . . .

So yes, I'm overwhelmed! But I'm also excited and nervous and anxious and happy and all the other emotions that we get as brides. These feelings come and go in waves but it's mostly the happy ones. I'm really looking forward to joining my FH in NY within the next 2 months and then our wedding is in November.

So ride the waves as they come and talk to some of your girlfriends or mom or sisters if you are able. Time is on your side so hopefully your fiance will become more interested in the planning and will become just as enthusiastic as you are!

You're very welcome!! There are other sites for used wedding dresses, and also new dresses from online stores. I just can't remember all the names of the sites! But these forums are set up so you can search a topic, and look at past discussions. I would go there too, to get some more places to look.

I am totally in love with WW!! I have gotten so much good information, as well as having an outlet to vent, or to cry or to congratulate other brides! I love you guys!! My sisters in all things wedding!
