Am i the only one??

Jessie, on May 23, 2019 at 9:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 18
Here we are on the evening of May 23rd, 2019. I stayed up until 6:30am watching wedding planning youtube videos, checking out dresses for my ladies, pinterest, and getting ideas for invites. And yet my wedding isn't until September of next year.
Am I the only one who wants to do as much planning as possible rather than over a long period of time? Granted, it's a good distraction with FH being 1,100 miles away for work this summer (he's in Michigan and I'm in Mississippi). I'm stashing money away each week for our wedding and he's stashing away for our own house. Don't ask about living situation cause it is a mess.
We have our venue in Indiana (where my family lives- some of whom can't travel very easily) locked in. We have a photographer (a family friend with his own company of 15 years) set. At Christmas service, the pastor at church said "When you get him to agree on a date, let me know right away because I would love to do your wedding." So officint is checked off the list. Mama offered to grow flowers from her garden so florist is taken care of AND offered the back yard for rehersals. Plus she has been thrift shopping like crazy for center piece items. I've gotten a couple items for my ladies to do bridesmaid proposal boxes and next I want to order invites.
Big things are checked off and all info needed for invites is known. I know to wait to send them out but I just want to have them on hand and stashed away so that way because we have the money now to afford what we want. Too many times we've tried to save and SOMETHING comes along that kills our savings. I don't want that to be the case for our wedding. It sucks being a planner that worries all the time.
Is it too early to order invites if they're just going to be stashed away?

I think it’s much too early. Things happen, plans change.

What day you guys have set?? Our venue had the 26th open and picked it. They also do catering! It's a place I've been to a few times and know the food is good so FH let me take the lead on planning. Dress was first thing checked off the list before we even had a date.
Grandma T has memory problems and I wanted her to be with Mama and I when dress shopping. I know she won't remember it but it still meant a lot to have her there. She even picked my dress!

September 6!! My venue also does catering which is such a blessing in my mind!

I love hearing that your grandma was able to be there with you! That’s amazing! I love that she picked your dress. I wish my grandma could have been with been, but traveling for my wedding is going to be a big challenge. I don’t see her traveling from Ohio to Utah more than once. Luckily, my parents were with me when I found mine. It was the best experience.

Be very careful planning this far out, as PP said, things change. I've seen some real horror stories and regret posts on here of people making decisions too soon, especially regarding their bridal party and invite lists.

I hear you. We're not sure when we're getting married due to some unforeseen events, but that hasn't stopped me from researching, pinning and reading these boards. It's actually a nice thing to look forward to when I need a break. Anything I can decide without signing any contracts or putting deposits down I'm trying to iron out now. I'm kinda grateful for the forced slow down because I think it's less pressure. I'm usually done "researching" by 4:30 am, though 😊.

I totally get wanting to order them now just in case something comes up later and you don't have the money, but you'll REALLY be kicking yourself if you order them now, something comes up, and then you have to pay for even more. Coming from another September 2020 bride who is getting antsy and wants to finalize everything right this minute, lol.

I did save the dates and stashed them away verses the invites. That way if anything happens it wont be a big deal because all the save the date has on them is the date Smiley smile Our wedding isn't until April 2020.

I've heard STDs are mor of a thing for out of town guests so they can start planning travle days early and not really needed for guests in town. Only out of state family is FMIL who lives near by and is being kept in the loop with everything. Plus not having them is a good way to cut cost with a tight bugdet.

I'm not sure. The only person out of town for us is his dad is Fl. I did save the dates because his family are all doctors and you have to request off so far in advance! Plus pursnisntoward spring break and peiplenstart taking trips and stuff so that way they know hey dont plan a trip the weekend of the 18th Smiley smile

I hear you! I’ve been doing as much as possible since May 1 😝
I would recommend not ordering invitations until you’ve finalized your guest list though. If you get too few/too many you don’t want to end up needing to order more!

We've got a fairly good idea with how many people will be there cause it's mostly family with a few extended family type friends inculded. So if we settle on 80 people (for example) then we'd order a few extra cards just in case more pop up. At least that's going to be the plan for when ever we do order.

I'd only order invites if you find a killer deal and you are 100% on your plans that are stated on there, it is early right now. I am the same as you and am figuring out everything asap but waiting till the right time for things unless I find killer deals (a great part of starting early). We are Nov next year! I don't find anything wrong with starting early so you can be calm the last few days and plan out your stress haha. Just make sure you don't buy things you'll regret or change your mind on and what not!

You can start collecting addresses now! Although people will move between now and then, it doesn’t hurt to have that information
