Am I the only Wedding Contest Junkie?

Mrs. Grissett-Johnson, on February 7, 2013 at 12:06 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 49

I've officially found a new hobby......entering wedding contests!! I know it may sound comical, but I feel like it's the same as playing the lottery only I don't have to stand in line or pay any money (at least not yet).

I'm very interested in knowing if any of you ladies have ever won anything national or locally, and if so was it worth the trouble?

Is there a site or anything you go to to find ones to enter?

I have never won anything. But if you know of any good sites please share. I only enter ones that I am emailed about...

I have entered so many contest and have won nothing, but I do get a ton of telemarketing phone calls! So annoying, I still enter them, because you never know, but I will probably need to change my email and phone after this wedding is over! haha

We won a free stylized engagement photo/video shoot with digital rights to the photos and video. They even sent a hair and makeup person to our house! I felt like a Kardashian! I definitely recommend entereing every single contest you can!

@Melissa, get a Google Voice # and create a wedding only email address -- it's helpful for a number of things, particularly the marketing!

I entered a few on the Knot, but quit after I got nothing but a bunch of emails and weekly calls to see if I wanted a photography/DJ package. I guess it would depend on the contest, but I'm unlikely to enter any more.

@Melissa B.- set up a wedding specific email account and google phone number. When the google phone number pops up on my phone, I know it's potentially a wedding telemarketer and I don't answer it. If they're reputable, they'll leave a message- and the best part about it is you can read the voicemail through your email!

I try to enter at least one per day, and have won a handful of things Smiley smile

    -Our Save-the-dates from Minted

    -50 thank you cards

    -$250 to Ann's Bridal Bargains

-Shoes for myself and my bridal party from JustFab

-A craft goodie box from Pick Your Plum

My Secret? Apply to whatever contest I see. The more you enter, the more chances you have to win. One place I always look is etsygiveaways.blogspot.com. They always have etsy-related giveaways, some of them wedding.

Another easy way to find them is search "wedding giveaway" "wedding win" "bridal giveaway" and similar tags on twitter. I have found most of the giveaways there, because blogs big and small post their giveaways on twitter.

When you see the big giveaways, don't not enter them just because the chances are slim. You never know when you'll get lucky! Smiley smile Good luck ladies!

Yes! I am not alone. Lol, I felt like a weirdo at first, but really got into it since you just never know. I agree with setting up a "wedding only" email account. I'm anticipating lots of solicitations, but it would be worth it for Fiji.

And I normally just do a Google search. I think WW even has it's monthly contests. I don't wait for them to come to me, I go to them ^_^

I became a junkie myself after attending my first bridal show where I won a free premium DJ package. Since then I have won each of these things from separate contest/events:

    - Free wedding!!!

    - A free romantic dinner for 2 cooked in my home

    - a free 2 night stay in a downtown hotel

    - BM dresses

    - Calligraphy seating chart

    - Father of the Bride tux/suit

    - Gift card to MissttoMrs.com

    -A wedding dress

    - A free bridal shoot

So, I say enter everything!!! You never know what God will bless you with. Smiley smile

Wow K.K.! That is a blessing. Sounds like you're gonna have a Platinum Wedding. If you ever get too much free stuff you can certainly send the overflow to Austin, TX, lol! But quick question though....do any of those gift have to be reported when filing taxes?

Lol, Angie B. it didn't take long for me either. Since my wedding is over a year away I feel like I can have more fun with it; dream a bit.

I haven't won anything yet, but I'll be sure to let you all know when I do. I hope you ladies post about your winnings too so we can all celebrate together and be jealous at the same time, Lol ^_^

Hi, my name is Artesha, and believe it or not, you aren't the only one that's a junkie to wedding contest. Surprisingly, I won a free pampering makeover session for me and my bridal party recently. When I got the call, I was like no way, but yes it's possible to win. Keep entering girl!

I have to admit, I am a junkie also! I enter anything and everything I can wedding related. Haven't won anything yet, but I still have time. We placed 76th out of 9,487 in a David's Bridal Contest. And we are currently entered into the cutest couple in Austin and in 3rd place. Hoping for more votes. I prefer the giveaways rather than the voting contests.
