Amazon or Crate and Barrel?

Pseunami, on November 12, 2017 at 8:48 PM Posted in Registry 0 20

Dumb question, just looking for opinions. My FH and I are setting up our registries. We've already got one with Bed Bath and Beyond. I was all ready to go with Amazon mainly for the sheer variety of options. However, we've had a number of people in our lives, whom I trust, recommend Crate and Barrel. I have never shopped at Crate and Barrel, I really don't know much about it, so I'm cautious to go there instead of Amazon.

Can anyone clue me into to whether Crate and Barrel is a good option? What kind of stuff should I get from there versus other places? Is it better than Amazon? Should I just do three registries?

Thanks everyone in advance! Again, just looking for insight.

You can always do universal registry option for Amazon if you find anything unique on crate and barrel!

Universal registry option? That sounds cool, what is that?

I definitely say Amazon. I've seen some shit at crate and barrel and it's pretty expensive.

Amazon lets you set up items on your registry that are actually being sold on other sites. It's ultimately the reason we ended up using it in addition to BBB

I'm doing C&B but I have to admit, there isn't a large selection (especially for bedding) but if you generally like their styles, I'd highly recommend them.

I'm doing C&B and Amazon for my registries. Amazon is great because it is affordable, easy to shop, familiar, has tons of one off gifts like tents, air mattress, etc.

I like C&B because it is a higher quality, but does not seem as pricey, as say Pottery Barn. There are tons of great gifts that you can register for under $50.

I agree with previous responses that there is a limited selection at C&B, but I found that to be a good thing. Basically the store has an underlying design concept and you can choose anything you like and know that it will all work well together in your home. If you register at a place like Macy's, you really need to know your style and understand how all of these different pieces will look together in your home.

    Hope this helps! Smiley smile

My advice would be to go into Crate & barrel and browse and see if there's anything in there you like. FH and I spent a day just wandering through stores to get a feel for if their inventory matched our interests/style/need. Choose based on where you find a good selection of things you actually WANT

I did Crate&Barrel and Amazon.com as my two registries and it worked out perfectly. I got lots of nice new kitchen appliances, dishes, glasses etc from C&B, and lots of fun cool stuff from Amazon. I think people also liked the ease of Amazon but in-person aspect of C&B, depending on their comfort level with online shopping.

We did three registries (Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, and a universal registry). We chose the universal because we were finding one or two or maybe three things we wanted at some stories, but I was absolutely not going to register at 10 places with some of those places having two items on the registry. I honestly love the universal registry concept. I would definitely look at C&B before going off of what others have said - some people just have different preferences and if you prefer Amazon, there's nothing wrong with that.

Why not both? I had all three of your options and it worked out great!

Crate and Barrel is awesome. I had never shopped there either, mostly because it was pricey for single me. But they have lovely dining items, decor items, furniture, anything you'd want in your home.

Plus, they have amazing customer service. A friend bought me a spoon rest that matched the hand towels I had on the registry. The spoon rest wasn't even on the registry. My olive oil tipped over and broke the spoon rest. So I emailed customer service about it, and they replaced it, no questions asked.

Amazon is cool for all the options you can get. That being said, some people found it difficult to use and couldn't get it to mark off that they bought the item if it was attached to an external site. Also, if the Amazon seller runs out of stock for that item, they don't notify you of that.

Amazon is trying to take over everything forcing brick and mortar stores out of business and taking away jobs. I'd rather buy off of a registry that has a local store I can stop in and support.

We looked at Amazon [because we love the convenience and use it frequently], but it also has problems with knockoff and poor quality if you don't know how to shop it. We did use Crate & Barrel since they have nice affordable dinnerware & glassware along it all kinds of little kitchen gadgets [plus it is super easy for ordering online or purchasing in store]. We have 3 registries & Crate & Barrel has been the favorite by guests.

Not so sure but I did several so that they have a variety to chose from...

Target, bed, bath & beyond, Amazon, Kohls, Macy's.

    Almost did Ikea too lol

I am also doing Amazon and crate and barrel. I think between those 2 we are getting the more traditional gifts like tableware, cooking stuff, linens at create and barrel, then registering for other items on Amazon like small appliances, other kitchen stuff, some camping stuff on Amazon. I like that on Amazon you can compare a bunch of things and read reviews and find something better than a brand you may find elsewhere. I say do 3 registries if you want to do both, but it depends if you live things from crate and barrel or did most of those things at bb&b

Love Crate & Barrel! My intention is to register two places and have also chosen Bed Bath & Beyond as one (they carry a Wedgwood pattern I like). I'm a little back and forth on the other place. I could go more high-end or strictly in the cloud. I considered Universal but my mother barely understood the concept and knew I'd need someplace brick and mortar for older guests.

FH really wanted a registry at William Sonoma. I had never been in there, but I agreed. I had some spare time one day, saw I next door to a store, and damn! I scanned all the things!! Even bought a few Christmas/Birthday presents lol. Moral of the story: just go check out Crate and Barrel. You might find a new favorite store!

(We also registered at BB&B and Sears. No one has purchased anything from Sears, and they say the sight isn't user friendly, so I don't recommend it.)

I love Crate and Barrel. There is a more limited selection, but it's a nice, homey style and you can always trust the quality there! Plus, they have awesome in-store registry events. Couples can come in before the store opens and try samples, ask questions, and explore the store in peace. You even get some free wine glasses out of it. We're probably doing BB&B, Amazon, and either Crate and Barrel or Williams Sonoma. I think 3 is fine!

We did both Amazon and Crate and Barrel. Only got a couple of items from C&B, but they happened to be my favorites. C&B has really great barware.

Crate & Barrel has items that are of good quality and has a good mix of items that are timeless and trendy. I registered at Amazon, Crate & Barrel, and Target. If you can't decide, do both!
