We are using Amazon Registry. Items are being sent to us months before the wedding. Is it okay to start opening the packages and thanking our guests or are we supposed to wait until after the wedding? Thanks!

Not only does ASAP let them know you received the gift without problem, but it will be so much easier to do the thank you notes as they come, rather than all at once after the wedding, and forgetting who some of the gifts even came from
