Amazon Wedding Registry Q?

Candyce, on May 12, 2021 at 11:22 PM Posted in Registry 0 9
I'm not understanding the timeline of gifts purchased from our wedding registry. We had 5 things purchased, 2 of which were over a month and a half ago. Do they not ship to us until after the wedding or something? Not that I'm in a rush to receive gifts, I just want to make sure we're sending thank you's in an appropriate amount of time. Google doesn't seem to have a straight answer lol

The buyer can choose to get them shipped to their house.

You should send thank you cards after you physically receive the item.

I often purchase something and have it sent to my house, especially if i will see the person soon or if they are having a shower. It's way more fun to actually give it to them in person. Don't worry about thank you notes until you've actually received the item, then send ASAP!

Don’t ever send a thank you note until you’ve actually received the item— part of what the thank you does is tell the gifter that “yes, I did receive the item!” ....in fact, I had a gift purchased from my registry that I never received. I presume the person bought it planning to bring it to the wedding and then realized they couldn’t go to the wedding. Maybe she kept it, maybe she eventually returned it, who knows, but it would’ve been weird if I thanked her for it and she was like “oh oops I never sent that” ! Things can get back ordered, people can order things to their address to wrap personally and give directly, or add to another part of a gift they plan on giving. I wouldn’t sweat it. It’s a good idea to keep an occasional eye on the registry just to make sure there’s stuff available and things don’t go out of stock, but my advice is always try not to pay too close of attention to it— you’ll drive yourself crazy waiting for the gifts! Whoever purchased the gifts likely had them shipped directly to them so they could give you the gift personally at your shower or wedding. You will send your thank you cards after you receive the gift.

My guess is the buyer had them shipped to their address, and will bring them to the wedding.

Some people get the gift shipped to them so they can bring it to the wedding in person.

That happened with us as well, and those gifts that didn't show up at our door before the wedding were brought to the wedding by the people who purchased them. Amazon gives people the option of shipping to the registered couple or themselves, so they likely just had the gift sent to their house to give you in person later. That's usually what I do, since I actually really enjoy wrapping gifts and giving them that extra special touch.
