Amount of bustles - David’s bridal

Does anyone have a dress similar to this? How many bustles did you need? I’m being told I will need around 30 and with them hem and taking it in it’s going to cost around $615! That’s more than my dress. Wondering if anyone else is having a similar experience. Thanks

I am going to a local seamstress due to the fact that everything I saw told me David’s Bridal is the most $$$ for alterations. I bought my dress there as well.

How many layers? I took mine to DB because I just don't ever get alterations so I don't know a good seamstress (and I asked around too no one knew) I have 5 layers, 14 point bustle (I needed an under and an over bustle otherwise it looked terrible lol!!!) I am hemming it adding in cups and shortening the straps and it was $400. I still have to go in and take it in around the waist so I'm not sure the final total yet.....

I think my dress is about 5 layers if i'm remembering correctly. She was adding an under for the satin part and an over bustle for the tulle part. I didn't really like the way it looked to be honest.

I would ask her to try different styles. If she didn't separate my bustles out it just looked like a big puff on my butt lol!!! I've seen a lot of different styles here (including a side bustle)

I just checked my receipt it should be $50 for the first 3 bustles and $7 for the additional (but with my over and under they are different bustles because my dress is an alterations nightmare 😳)

It looks like my hem was $120 total so I'm not sure how much taking it in costs but it still sounds like you are being overcharged even for DB's.

    I had a 5 point bustle for 5 layers.

I would take your dress to someone else. I had my dress taken in, hemmed, bustled and belt added for $375.

Okay so my alterations where steep too, $580 at David’s. It is high.

Here is why I am a still going to them: if they for whatever reason messed up my alterations, they would cover the cost of a new dress. If another place did the alterations, they wouldn’t cover it. I love the extra security so I went with the extra money.

If if you have someone else that is cheaper and you trust, go for it!! I’m the type of person that needs that extra Insurance, so I got it there.

I also have several tulle layers in my dress and I ended up with a 10 point bustle (1 under and 9 over) for about $12 per bustle

I’d also add that the hem with several layers is often where it gets expensive, so maybe your high alterations quote is more for the hem rather than the bustles

but 30 bustles still seems like a lot!
