Amphitheatre Ceremony Decoration Idea

Michelle , on October 25, 2010 at 1:41 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 9

I'm thinking about having my ceremony at one of the local park amphitheatre. But the stage is huge and I don't know how to fill that space without spending a ton of money. One of the reason I'm consider this option is to cut cost.

Could you guys give me some idea?

I think I would go with some fabric draping and cafe lights/ lanterns. That will help light and define the space.

You could hand swags of fabric to make the space smaller. Start a few feet inside the edge and hang them from the top. Follow the lines of the stage and kinda make a curtain. Hope that makes senseSmiley smile

Rent tall plants to form a backdrop.

First question is what will the venue allow you to do. Second is who will do it for you (DIY or pro?) and how much time will you be allotted before AND after for removal. My first thot would be to move the congregation onto the stage to fill it in. Drapery, lots of tall plants, etc., all could work, except if it's windy. Weather will be a concern no matter what time of year. I've used those tall flags to define a space. They sit in a 5 gal bucket of concrete that we made. Hard to tell, but there may not be a lot of places to hang lanterns, etc., but that still won't cut down the square footage, only lower the perceived ceiling.

Tall (5-6 feet) urns rent for about $25-50 each...you might only need 6-8 of them, and you can get lightweight ones. You could swag tulle between each to fill in some space, and make it less structural. Piping/draping would be a pain: either you'll be freaking out cuz you're doing it, and probably won't have all the equipment...or skill??.. or you'll have to pay for a professional----which would be okay if you weren't trying to save money. Do not worry about "lowering the ceiling"....just the back closer. You will probably be standing within the first 6-10 feet. Definitely consider having everyone seated INside, altho' then you would need to rent chairs!

Hi! I just came across your post while I was looking for decorating ideas for my own ceremony! I am getting married at a local park in our town May 14,2011. The amphitheatre there is were we plan to have the ceremony. I was wondering if you had came up with any ideas on how to decorate around the amphitheatre, say the benches? The photo below is of my own dilema! Not no way as big as yours tho!

@Bo E. I actually changed my venue, so I won't be having a ceremony at an amphitheatre. But what I was thinking before was for the benches were to either put bouquet of flowers at the end of every other benches or drape colorful fabric streamers at the end of everybench.
