An infant flower girl?

Sara, on March 22, 2019 at 4:41 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4

Hi all!

We're not having any kids at our wedding, except for one infant in the wedding party: my sister's baby girl, my niece, who will be 9 months old at the time of the wedding (which is in 3 months). My niece is a little rock star, she's super social and very comfortable in crowds (my sister and her husband are high-profile professional dance teachers, and the baby sometimes attends events, and she just eats up the attention). My niece is also rather advanced in terms of development, so while she (probably) won't be walking, she can still manage herself well (I'm an infant/ young childhood occupational therapist specializing in development - and there is an actual possibility she could be cruising/ walking short distances with support by then..)

So my questions: Is 9 months too young for a flower girl? What are some ways you picture this working? My sister is my MOH, so she will be standing up with me. She suggested her husband walk down the aisle with the baby, who can maybe throw (or eat) a few petals and look cute, then be seated or leave the area if she's fussing. My FH actually HATES my sister's husband, so he's not totally thrilled with the idea this man walking down the aisle in any capacity, so that's a bit of an issue. He also said that this is about us and our relationship, and he doesn't really know if he wants the baby / my sister's husband to "steal the show"... My mom and sister are so completely into to the idea of my niece being the flower girl. Any suggestions or ideas?

I like the idea of the baby's father walking her and then sitting with her, but you shouldn't do that if FH is against it. Can the baby's mother carry her (your MOH) since the MOH & flower girl are traditionally the last to walk before you? OR your MOH can pull her behind her in a wagon:

I think a wagon would be cute if it goes with how elegant/casual the wedding will be. I'd probably hand kiddo off to grandma while the ceremony is going on so the focus will be on you and grandma (or whoever) can tend to kiddo. Let kiddo walk/ride down the aisle then hand her off if she wants out of the wagon.

We will be having my nephew as ring bearer and he will only be like maybe 18 months at the time so while he will be walking, I’ll have him walk Holding hands with my sister who is one of my MOH and his mother. I think having your sister do the same would work. She could just carry her and hand her off to the husband at the altar.

I went to a wedding where the dad carried the baby down the aisle and put her hand in the petals and threw them down, pretending she was doing it herself. It was super cute.
