Just Said Yes April 2020

Angry at the world

Rebecca, on March 19, 2020 at 3:06 PM Posted in Texas Planning 0 8
Our wedding is April 4 here in Texas. It’s like everything is conspiring against us to ruin the year of planning we have done to make this the best day ever. Not even sure who can even make it, and definitely not my maid of honor or bridesmaids from out of town. Now there’s a ban on gatherings of 10 or more people until April 3. No rehearsal dinner, not sure who can even come, who knows what else will fall apart. Our backup is to have our wedding here at our property but part of me wants to see if we can postpone our date and just officially get “married” on April 4 but do an actual ceremony at a later date if the venue will allow it. Just wanted to vent. I’m sure a lot of you are experiencing similar situations.

We also have to postpone our 4/4/2020 date (twinsie!!) in Seattle till later this year due to state ban, travel restrictions for family in Europe and general safety of our guests. I don't think you have to reprint everything though, we reached out to guests directly and plan to send our email reminder when the new date is closer. The venue and others have been extremely kind and supportive and help us move to new date without any cost. I hope your experience (postponing if you choose to) will be as pain free as possible. I know exactly how upsetting that is, I spent 2 days crying my eyes out and so I looked like a pufferfish afterwards, but after that it was such a relief knowing it was the right decision! Stay strong!

Though we still plan to MARRY each other legally on the original planned date of 4/4 ! Perhaps in a park with the sun and ocean and the blessings of some close friends (parents are all not local unfortunately). I think 'wedding' itself is just a day of celebration and that can happen anytime! Much love to you and your family!

You are definitely not alone! So sorry you are going though this.

I'm hoping some courthouses/city halls will consider opening on weekends to allow couples to do this. We would have probably done our "official" stuff at our city hall even before this but our wedding is on a Saturday and our city hall is only open Mon-Fri. We went through the effort of having a friend become a JP just so we could have our legal and wedding dates match. My FH got his suit custom made with the date embroidered on it, so it would be really nice to have that day "mean something" even if we can't have the wedding we had planned on that day.

It’s a shame we all have to go through this but “our special day” should not take priority over the health and safety of your community. You can postpone and still have the wedding of your dreams.

Well, Dallas just announced that they're enforcing the no no more than 10 people at a legal level, and the rest of Texas will probably follow suit. We wondered around Target for a bit, and it was crazy how empty everything is! We only found the one thing we went for, a printer because my FH needs to be able to print and scan some documents for his job. It's so bizarre. I hope everyone calms down and allows things to restock, allows the world to catch up.

I'm so sorry Rebecca! It's a time of stress and uncertainty for everyone, and it's completely valid to be upset about how this affects your wedding plans. I would definitely encourage you to get in touch with your venue ASAP to talk about possible dates for rescheduling, I've heard from a lot of other brides who were proactive about postponing that their vendors were really helpful and worked with them! We've also started gathering some tips and resources you can check out here: COVID-19 Wedding Support Central

Also you are definitely not alone in these feelings right now! Smiley heart You can connect with other couples who are thinking about going ahead with a private ceremony and postponing the big party in this discussion: Anyone still getting married despite Formal wedding postponed? And I've seen several April brides talking here: April 2020 wedding. Who is canceling who is keeping the date?

Hey! We plan on officially getting married on April 4 (hopefully on a beautiful mountain) as well and postponing our dream wedding to fall or next spring. ❤️

I’m running into the exact same situation. We are set to get married in Missouri on May 9th but right now, MO has the 10 person restriction in place as well. Since our officiant (uncle) will be in town anyways from Texas for a 90th birthday, we plan to get married in order to keep our date but considering doing the ceremony later. My venue and photographer is non refundable so I either lose thousands of dollars, or postpone to a different date. So tough to decide! Our immediate family is 21 (parents, siblings, 2 grandmas and officiant) so I may ask the venue if we can move forward with the ceremony only with that count if we “gather” in groups of 10 since we are getting married outside in a courtyard. Let me know what you decide to do!
