Anniversary Dance instead of bouquet toss

Future Mrs. Peña, on March 19, 2014 at 11:45 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 28

I love this idea of anniversary dance instead of a bouquet toss, we are already skipping the garter toss. So I was wondering what are some song suggestions for this dance/game and has anyone done this at their weddings and did it a lot of people participate?

We did. I left song choices up to the DJ.

    Edited: misread you question...

I don't think you need any particular song... usually the DJ is talking over the song for part, if not most, of the dance because he will be directing people...

I have seen this done at a few weddings and generally there is a big crowd... most guests participate

We were going to do thank you for loving me by bon jovi for our anniversary dance and NO ONE got up to dance. I was so mad. I really wanted to hear that song! Lol

We're doing it. Just met with the DJ and we're going with Ribbons in the Sky by Stevie wonder. He did ask what number years we'll think he'll get up to - answer - in the 40s.

I want to do the same! We're not doing a garter toss either and I liked the idea of getting our older guests involved in something. Plus, I really wanted to honor my parents' 30 plus years of marriage without drawing attention to them (we almost had the wedding on my dad's birthday and he said he would absolutely NOT want a birthday cake because it's OUR day lol) or making FI's parents (who are divorced) feel bad. So I thought the anniversary dance, using my parents' own wedding song, would be a subtle nod to their successful marriage.

We're going to let our DJ choose I think - we're doing the anniversary dance too. We're doing the garter toss but the guy who catches it will get a bottle of some nice liquor, perhaps Crown Royal.

I plan to do it as well. We were thinking Share My Life by Kem, Amazing by Luther Vandross or Endless Love by Lionel Ritchie and Dianna Ross

Instead of doing the bouquet / garter toss do an anniversary dance instead. The Bride has the DJ call all married couples come to the dance floor and then the DJ will ask them to leave gradually until we get down to the couple that's been married the longest and then the bride will give couple her toss bouquet.

Ohhhh so why is it called the anniversary dance? I thought you were celebrating an anniversary, lol.

It's called an anniversary dance because the couple who has made it through the most "Anniversarys" aka... been married the longest... is the last couple standing who gets the toss bouquet

We are doing this as well in place of the bouquet/garder. I've seen it at several weddings and love it.

My parents requested some older slow songs...I think we will use a couple of those during the anniversary dance. It will encourage those married longer to get on floor.

I also like " A Couple of Forevers" By Chrisette Michelle.

edit: I would also think of maybe doing a classic song - Like "unforgettable" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnPcEQmd9co

I have seen this done at many weddings and think it is super cute! We aren't doing it at ours however as I only have two grandmothers left, and FH only has one grandmother left, and his father passed away a year and a half ago - and it would just end up being sad I think.

We plan on doing this instead of the garter/bouquet toss too. I have seen it done at one wedding last fall and there was a good amount of couples that participated, though it varies from one wedding to the next because it depends on how many married couples are there. I haven't decided on a song yet, but probably something from the oldies that the older couples will enjoy.

We're also doing an anniversary dance. We are probably going to use "Love Like Crazy" by Lee Brice.

That song is special to me and FH. If you don't have a song you really want as it, your DJ should come up with a few suggestions. If he doesn't, I always suggest go with an oldie but a goodie like Frank Sinatra, or something that everyone knows to get them up and going.
