Announcing Aunt’s Birthday at Bridal Shower?

Natalie, on March 29, 2022 at 10:11 AM Posted in Parties and Events 1 7
My mother is hosting my bridal shower this Sunday (4/3/22) and a few of the elements are not what I would have normally chosen (no wine allowed at the venue, family members I’m not close to invited, some guests having to bring a “+1” because they’re unable to come on their own). But I’ve brushed these off as it’s much easier to go with the flow. However, I’m not sure how to navigate this one situation. My aunt’s birthday is on the day of the bridal shower and my mom is requesting I make an announcement at the shower for it. I’m not too upset about the idea (though I find it a bit odd), rather, I don’t know what to do to make an announcement without it being very awkward. When do I say it, what do I say? Do we sing happy birthday for one of my guests at my bridal shower? The whole situation is peculiar to me. Any advice on how to just get it out of the way without an incredibly weird moment would be much appreciated!

When you are collectively thanking everyone for coming, I'd just throw in a simple "and especially Aunt so and so for joining us on her birthday", or something like that. Nice and simple - no song or anything else necessary.

I agree with this! I don't think you need to make it into a huge deal (as in, I don't think you need to have everyone sing to her or get a cake/balloons/decor for her), but you could do a quick shout-out to your aunt in the way that NewEnglandSettler suggested!

I love this idea. I think that's more than enough.

I think a small cake for her, displayed next to the other refreshments, would be plenty. Or you could tie a balloon to her chair.

I absolutely came here to say just throw it in with the "Thank you for being here", as stated above.

"Thank you to XXX for putting together and hosting this beautiful shower, and thank you to everyone for taking the time to come out and celebrate, especially Aunt since today is her birthday!"

I think you can say it in the closing remarks - but I have been to showers where a cake was presented and we sang to my great aunt - we did this after the games but before gifts. Both work well!
