Another Covid Post

In May of 2020 we had to postpone our wedding due to Covid. We’re now scheduled to get married November 20th, 2020 as it was forecasted this pandemic would be over. I am so unsure how to proceed. This virus terrifies me! But with the thought of no vaccine for years to come the future is so uncertain. Who knows when we could safely get married and have the wedding of our dreams? We cannot get back our deposits and stand to lose at least $5,000 if we do not go through with the wedding (which I cannot afford to lose). I’m feeling so lost. I’m thinking by September I’ll need to make a final decision. What are other brides doing? How are you coping with the stress?

I am pretty much just waiting to see what will happen and still continuing to plan as if the wedding will happen. If I have to reschedule I will deal with it if it comes. I think that waiting until September is a good idea.

We are hoping for the best at this point. We wanted invites out 12 weeks prior to our date to make sure people could make travel arrangements (everyone has to travel at least 2-3 hours, but we did save the date cards at Christmas too). We set ourselves a deadline of 6/12 to make a decision about our 9/12 wedding. In June, when we decided to keep going we looked much better as a country than we do now, so I guess we’ll see. We can cancel more than 30 days in advance for a full refund of our deposits with venue and catering, so I guess our next deadline is 8/11. The more I watch the news, the more stressed I get, but if I don’t pay attention to what’s going on in the world and around me I feel like I’m living in a bubble.
Where are you in the country? That could make a difference too since each state has been given freedom to respond as they see fit and are handling it differently. Good luck! I hope your new day works for you and you don’t end up losing money. Though, if the vendor can’t provide what’s in the contract you should be able to get a refund.

Yeah definitely, it’s just upsetting looking at the possibility of postponing your wedding twice in one year.

Good point, I didn’t think about how if the vendor cannot provide what’s in the contract that’s be a good arguement to cancel and get a refund. But that might only work for the venue. The wedding is in Bucks County, PA. Hoping we can BOTH go through with our wedding date.

We are in VA and have already postponed from May 23rd to August 22nd. We are going ahead with the wedding for now and just telling everyone to wear masks (even though it’s not required at our venue). we can’t handle the stress of planning this thing for a third time with no certainty of when this virus will actually go away. We are embracing the times and taking every precaution to make it as safe as we can. Good luck with your planning!

My wedding was originally set for 4/24/21. We decided to cancel that wedding and bring up an immediate family/bridal party wedding weekend in November 2020. It’s pretty low key and a “come only if comfortable” thing. We decided that we did not want to have covid make the decision for us and we really don’t want to deal with the restrictions Michigan has put in place. I actually am more excited to plan this wedding!

For the time being, seems like getting legally married and pushing any type of reception off til end of 2021 or 2022 is the best way to go

We’re just going for it! Our date is Sept 6 and it always has been. We’ve invited about 200, but obviously totally understand if people don’t feel comfortable coming. We except older guests or out of town guests to not come. Masks aren’t required at the reception, but I’m thinking about having some available in case people want to wear one! And lots of hand sanitizer too

I hope so too! I am so grateful to our vendors for being so helpful through this, I hope you can get your vendors to work with you if things get worse. We even cancelled one vendor and weren’t due a refund, but they gave us a full refund anyways. I totally get vendors are running businesses and refunding hurts them, it’s a tough situation all around. Regardless, best wishes!

The unpredictability of knowing if it will get better or worse is frustrating but hopefully by November things would have smoothed out a bit. I would wait it out if I were you. I was also cancelled twice by my venue - once on April 25 and the other on August 29th - however I found another venue for the same date August 29 willing and able to do it (for the record the original venue was at a casino and they're having to abide by state AND gaming board guidelines).

Hang in there and good luck!

After rescheduling from May to August and seeing no hope of getting to have the wedding as planned that day, we just said screw it and decided to elope on that August date (except our immediate families are witnessing so I don't know if that still counts as an elopement lol). We have postponed our actual wedding to next year. Getting married and having that stability especially during such uncertain times is really important to us at this point so it feels worth it to us. Is that something you have considered? I've heard of people doing it that way, as well as just pushing everything off until next year so that it can all happen together with hopes that things can look a little more normal by then. Totally up to you guys and what will make you happy - I think it makes sense either way.

I also think vendors at this point understand that these circumstances are so unique and challenging for everyone across the globe, so hopefully they will be supportive of whatever you guys need to do. Sending love Smiley heart
