Any brides having a cultural dress also?

I am shopping for my wedding dress but have always wanted a Thai wedding dress since they’re so gorgeous and I don’t think I’ll have the chance to wear one. I just had sticker price shock, when I found out it can easily cost $1,000 to $1,500 to be made in Thailand!


I’m trying to maybe find one for rent but there’s not a lot of Thais here and selection is limited. I’m looking for a very specific color. Tons of Cambodians here (fiance is Cambodian), and there’s a large selection. It’s similar to Thai style and rented for a few hundred dollars. I’ve tried eBay and Etsy but it’s not the style or design I like.Any brides having a cultural dress also? 1Any brides having a cultural dress also? 2

    Hi, I'm Thai. My mom tried to talked me to wear a Thai dress for my wedding, but I wanted a western one to walk down the aisle (long train, etc) and I find Thai dresses a bit constricted, not easy to dance in.
    Anyway, BUT yes Thai dresses are expensive, but you should be able to to find one on the cheaper side. Do you know someone in Thailand that can look around for you? Sometimes finding an already made one and then have it alter to fit you can be cheaper

    My aunt in Thailand is searching for the materials and to make it. If I were in Thailand I would search pre made one, just as long as its dark red and gold but I don’t want her to run around the city just for me lol. I only want to wear it for like an hour or two. I just can’t believe they cost that much.

    I can’t read Thai. I will ask my cousin to ask her mom if she can consider already made ones. Thanks! If not, I’ll just suck it up and pay for the dress to be made just because I don’t ever have the chance to dress up that way....

    I'm having an Indian wedding and bought two dresses in India. I bought a traditional red outfit for my ceremony and a gown for the reception that is more western style. Since I bought them there, they were much cheaper than buying one white dress in the U.S.

    I didn't want to regret not having an Indian part to my wedding, as it's a big part of me. I think I will miss out on the white dress moment, but I am going to wear white to the other bridal events so that is exciting, as well as wearing a white robe for getting ready.

    If you don’t mind me asking how much was it altogether and what’s your budget? I’m considering this dress on eBay, it’s not my most favorite lol but it’s like $700 cheaper and close to what I want.

    So an old friend gave me her numbers seamstress from a few years ago. I hope her number still works, I will call her. She paid less than $500 for her cultural gown and it’s gorgeous! It’s not the old style traditional Thai but I think it depends on what you ask for the seamstress. I would be very happy with the style even if it wasn’t 100% real silk lol.
