Any Diet Recommendations? Looking to lose 30 pounds in a couple months

Georgina, on June 28, 2016 at 12:54 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 28

Hello hello!

Brand new to WeddingWire, and I'm on a bit of a crunch as my wedding's like a couple months away. Anyway I'm about 30 pounds over weight and hoping to lose it all or as much as I can in the next couple months.

I've been searching online and trying to find what's the best diet to use to help. I know exercise is important but can't forget about nutrition. I've heard from a friend they tried some diet called Venus Factor and said it really worked from them, but then I look online and a lot of people are saying its a scam... *Update - found a review that was kind of positive at http://venusfactor.reviews/ still undecided about it* Anyone heard of it or tried it? I'd love to hear different thoughts or experiences.

Apprecite the help!

    Diets are terrible.

Cultivate a healthy lifestyle based on light/moderate exercise and clean (and I mean CLEAN) eating.

Honestly, exercise and eating right will help you lose the weight. One thing I found is never skip breakfast even if you are running out of time in the morning. If you don't have time to prepare something, take it to work, or make a protein shake. Carrots, celery, raisins, fruit, nuts, etc for snack. I've added hard boiled eggs into my diet and it really helps me fill up until I can eat again. Good luck!

I am the biggest advocate for weight watchers because I lost 132 pounds eating my favorite foods. I just rejoined today after having my daughter and I'm so excited to start losing weight again! Weight watchers helps you learn to eat lean proteins and fruits and veggies and make healthier choices while allowing you to indulge once in awhile.

    1. I agree with PPs, don't go on a diet, because once it's over, you will go back to your bad habits and gain back the weight you lost and then some

    2. That's a bit of an unhealthy rate of weight loss. A healthy rate is 1/2 to 2 lbs per week, you would need to lose about 4 lbs per week

Okay I'm not sure why no one is mentioning that unless you have weight loss surgery there is no way to lose 15 pounds per month. So first thing I would suggest is to think up a more realistic weight loss goal for two months.

Second thing is to figure out how many calories you should be having in a day. For extensive weight loss (which 30 pounds IS), go ahead and go down to 1000 but anything less would be unhealthy unless you are around 4'9". Do weight training and cardio, alternate days since you will need both.

Eat low fat and low carb food which means high protein foods and high fiber veggies. Cut out fruits completely, (let alone pasta, bread, crackers, etc). You'll want your diet to consist mainly of lean proteins like chicken breast and fish as well as vegetables like kale, cauliflower, carrots.

For snack foods I'd suggest heavy water based vegetables like celery and tomatoes.

    Good luck!

    80% diet, 20% nutrition.

Focus on cleaning up your diet - limit pre-packaged products, focus on fresh produce, healthy fats, and lean protein sources. This doesn't mean you can't have a cheeseburger - but make it a turkey burger (loveee) with a thin slice of cheddar on a whole wheat bun with some roasted veggies on the side.

Scale back your portion sizes. Seriously evaluate how much you are eating in a sitting and take a look at serving sizes. If you eat the serving size of something and are still hungry 15 minutes later, by all means, eat a bit more of that but do not overeat during meals. (Easier said than done, believe me)

As far as exercise. Start small. Go out in sneakers and workout clothes and walk the dog or just by yourself- a mile, 2 miles, a bit more... Maybe you'll feel like jogging one day. Or start biking (one of my favorites) or maybe you liked dancing when you were little, so look into a Zumba class or two.

Small changes, made gradually, are more likely to result in sustained weight loss, rather than crash or fad diets. No Shakeology, no Venus diet, no Beachbody (the workout videos are pretty decent though), no Tone It Up. 30 pounds is a lot to lose in a relatively short amount of time but it may be possible if you buckle down.

@Future Mrs. C. -- they changed the program thoughhhhhhhhhh. (That's me whining.) I feel like now it's just like every other diet. I'll be interested to see what you think of it now.

@Cathy I think you mean obese. There's a difference between healthy weight (not overweight), overweight, and obese. As someone who has also been in the morbidly obese category, I can tell you that you're right, for someone who has more than 60 pounds to lose, it wouldn't be impossible, but the OP did indicate she only had 30 pounds to lose. Ask any nutritionist. 30 pounds in 8 weeks is, while technically possible, is not really realistic.

I think you are making a unhealthy choice. Sorry, but I think 2 months before a wedding is really just too late to try and take on a weight loss let alone one of 30 pounds.

I had a eating disorder relapse during my wedding planning, accidentally went into a starvation diet and I don't think I lost quite that much on the scale. If I did it was over more like 6 months. I got sick about 3 weeks before the wedding and though I got much better by the wedding day,

I had to do some make up tricks because I was so pale. thank god I sewed my own dress- I lost muscle and had to make so many changes with the fit of my gown people were certain I was going to end up with no dress. No clue what I would have done if I'd had to work with any seamstress but myself through all that!

I suggest you look towards eating healthy to keep yourself healthy before the wedding. If you cut out the bad stuff like sugar and fast foods you very well may loose some pounds if you're meant to. Though I wasn't in the mindset to follow my own advice at the time, believe me, a healthy glowing bride is much more beautiful than the one that pushed her self to loose those last few pounds.

Don't forget to drink lots of water, especially if you can replace alcohol, coffee, sodas etc with water. And it would be great if you could speak to a doctor and/or nutritionist as you start your plan so they can help make sure you're working towards your goals in a balanced and efficient way.

I am currently doing weight watchers and I love it. It is designed to lose 1/2 to 2 lbs. a week, but you may lose more in the beginning. I do the weekly meetings and track using the app. I still eat all the same foods that I ate before so I don't feel like its a diet. Sure I can't eat an unlimited amount, but I have never felt unsatisfied while on the program. You also get weekly points in addition to your daily points for days when you may want to indulge or have that special treat.

I am by no means considered a expert or dietician/nutritionist. 30 pounds in 2 months is not healthy. You'd have to lose 4 pounds a week and the recommended loss per week is 1-2 pounds. If you want weight loss then go see a nutritionalist. A quick fix is wishful thinking. I have lost over 30 pounds in a 4 month span by eating healthier and running 5 miles a day. 4 yrs later and I've put back on 18 of those pounds. EAT RIGHT before you add exercise that is my 2 cents.

Apps like myfitnesspal helped me but you should pay attention to the nutrients as well as calories.

    Best wishes!

I think to lose 30 pounds in the next 6 weeks, you'd have to amputate a limb or two.

Plus you have to save time for alterations.

I went and saw a doctor.. I was about 40 lbs over the healthy weight and started a treatment called sensotherapy. It basically suppresses your hunger and boosts your metabolism. I'm on a 1200 calorie diet.. I'm losing about 5lbs a week if I stick to it (some weeks are harder than others)

30 lbs might be doable, but you have to get serious and be realistic. My ultimate goal is to lose 60 lbs. Right now I'm 20 lbs down and it feels good!

Wow thanks for all the input everyone lots of good points and views in all your replies. I'll set a more realistic goal, but I agree with others that it's doable if I really turn my habits around. Thanks again!

I'd say 30 lbs is a little unrealistic. My wedding is the same day as yours, and I'm hoping to drop about 8-10 lbs

No booze. No sweets. Water, veggies, lean protein, sleep, walk at lunch, have lots of sex and stop thinking about weight.

I started seeing a dietitian & she cut my caloric intake to 1,516 a day. Plus 30 min walking on top of whatever other steps I'm getting. The more protein I eat the less food I want. It's a slow process. But working. Good luck!

Make sure you eat enough calories. Often times we go on "diets" and do not consume enough fuel for our bodies. Your body will go into starvation mode and not use as much fuel. Talk to a nutritionist about what your caloric intake should be. Nobody is the same so it is important to determine what will work for you. I personally shoot for between **** calories.

I'm also going to throw this out there since nobody else said it...it's basically the beginning of July and your wedding is in August. Let's say you DO lose that much weight. How are you going to be able to get your dress altered that quickly? It took 2 fittings (basically 2 weeks) to get my dress to fit properly. You'd have to stop losing weight in pretty much 3 weeks to be able to allow enough time for alterations, if necessary.
