Any Long Distance Engagement Couples?

Allywooo, on February 5, 2015 at 4:51 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5

My fiance is from Switzerland originally but we met in Canada. We've been travelling and living together for the last 6 years. His work visa expired last December so he had to go back to home (*holding back the waterworks*). We are currently experiencing a long distance engagement and I was just wondering if anyone else was or is as well? If so how are you coping? Cause there's only so much Ben & Jerry's I can eat!! LOL!

    Me!!

Although the distance between us wasn't as much - I'm in Saskatchewan and he was in Oklahoma. The visa process is such a pain in the ass but it's worth it! Try to have regular Skype/FaceTime dates whenever you can and text throughout the day. This might sound lame but long distance date nights: you both watch the same movie or both order pizza etc ... I think it's fun doing little things like that! I know it's crazy tough but your relationship will be sooo strong after! Relationships that go through things like this are stronger because you never take each other for granted! You really cherish the time you do have together!

@kaylarae, hey another Canadian! Hello from the East coast which is currently buried under a 1000ft of snow! You are absolutely right, It does make your relationship stronger. We have applied for Permanent Residency for him for Canada - which is it's own stress case - so we pray he will get it for before the end of the year. We do Skype and text pretty much every day which helps a lot. That is a fantastic idea though about the long distance date night. Need to give that one a try.

Me! D: FH is in the Marines so he's in Hawaii while I'm in California. We make it work. Phone calls and talking on Oovoo a lot. We both have netflix so we will both put on the movie at the same time and watch it together over oovoo. My family says we disgust them cause they think we are so cute together. Once we see each other it's like seeing each other for the first time all over again. I would rather be with him all the time but I cherish the time I have with him like Kaylarae said. I feel like it has made our relationship stronger. I don't ever take him for granted and I enjoy our relationship. Smiley smile

@Brittaney F, my heart goes out to you guys too! It sounds like you've found your soul mate Smiley smile I always forget about Netflix - that's a good way to watch a movie together. We are the same way too, every time we've been apart and reunited it's like falling in love all over again. I guess that is the one of the few positives with long distance relationships.
