Any one else used itailor.com for ordering suits?

Sara, on April 30, 2012 at 9:26 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12

My FH is strictly opposed to renting a tux. A BIG "no-no" in his book. But buying a suit is no cheap date and we are on a budget~ so we found itailor.com and just ordered his suit from there yesterday. The site is based out of singapore and you send them about 20 different measurements, choose your fabric, lining, style, piping and they even embroider the inside of the jacket, "specially made for *your name here*" and all for $240 including shipping and everything. We couldn't believe what a good deal it is.

Has anyone else ordered a suit from there? I'm so scared now that it's not going to be what we had hoped and will be out the $. I'm just second guessing myself now and worried that it's not going to be what he wants. The nerves are getting to me. I just wanted any opinions if anyone else has experience w/the company. Thanks Smiley smile

I haven't heard anything about them specifically, but I've heard terrible things about all Chinese sites selling cheap knock-offs. I'm hoping for your sake it all goes well, but if it doesn't, you should try going around to local suit shops. We went to one to buy Fh's suit, and we got 50% off plus a free shirt/tie simply because we were buying it for the wedding.

Have you checked the department stores, such as JC Penney? Even Men's Wearhouse has sales sometimes, where you can get 2 suits for $199 or something. Hell, girls here have been able to find suits that were barely worn at thrift stores, and all of these options are better than going through a Chinese site.

But since you've already placed the order and given them money, I hope it works out for you. There's a recent post from someone who ordered a dress from a Chinese site (bridesire.com) and it came out terribly, you can check that one out (or search for the many Chinese site horror stories in the forum) to see what your prospects are.

Well I ordered my 2nd dress from an actual Chinese based web-company and it came in less time than they quoted me and is beautiful.

Also Singapore isn't Chinese. It's its own country The Republic of Singapore~ located south-west of China on the southern tip of the Maylay peninsula. Plus Singapore is sort of know for it's quality textile and clothing industry~ it's a very modern, contemporary, industralized and chic society.

But I was just worried b/c Asian measurements tend to be a bit smaller than American sizing and was wondering if the sizing would be an issue. I just hope it doesn't run a bit small.

We checked the department stores and even amazon but my FH just loved the idea of a custom suit for our wedding day and this made it an affordable option. Here's hoping it works out.

Lol Singapore is definately different than China. I don't know if you've ever been, but the malls have about 500 stores in them and 400 are dedicated to tailor services (for both men and women). Maybe that's an exaggeration, but it sure felt like it, and they've been in the business for years - not sweatshops, but little stores. I spent some time there and got a few dresses made to me and they were my favorite until my measurements changed (we're not going to talk about that though). Assuming itailor uses these same sorts of people, you should be fine!

If not, Men's Warehouse sells them off the rack. Jos A Banks might too. I have a hard time ordering clothes online because I like to see them on me before I spend money, but everyone is different!

Thanks Juliette. I've never been, but have heard that Singapore is sort of know for luxury accomodations/services at astoundingly affordable prices. That's what drew us to the site and ultimatley why we ordered from it. I'm hoping for the best case scenario where it'll come and we'll so plesantly surprised and it'll fit perfectly. Worst case scenario, we'll be hitting the mall/men's clothing stores to try to find a replacement.

I'm the same way w/clothes usually. My FH prefers to shop online.. it's nuts to me. But when I ordered my second dress, I was taking a leap of faith and had to send them virtually every measurement for my entire body- so when it came, I was amazd that it really does fit me well. Same with the suit, we had to send them all of my FHs measurements... it will be made for *him* (hopefully, it works out!!).

If you ever get a chance to go - GO!!! I don't know how affordable the prices are; it's one of the more expensive places to live in the world, but the clothing and customer service are *amazing* and despite what you hear about the canings and such (I was actually there during that time and the OJ low speed chase), it's a fun place to party too Smiley smile

I'm glad your 2nd dress worked out too -- the China knock off sites seems to be very hit or miss -- and mostly miss...plus there's the ethical quandry. I hope the tux turns out very nice!

Sara, I was looking at iTailor as well and would love to know what the verdict was on the suit. Material/fit/quality etc.

    Thanks!

The suit was awesome! I would 100% do it again and recommend it to anyone. You take about a million measurements and send them in to the web site when you make your order, you choose your fabric, lining, thread color, buttons, button styles, etc., and everything is fully customized. My husband wears a suit to work every day, and the itailor suit is the best fitting suit he has to date- he wears it a few time a week actually. For the price, you seriously cannot beat it- and it really is good quality. Another thing that's cool about it is that inside the jacket they embroider "specially made for 'your name here' " in w/e color thread you want- and since your husband gets to keep the suit, it's a nice keepsake that he can wear again and again. And even if you do find another suit for a good deal, you will have to get it tailored, which isn't a cheap date either. The itailor suit comes in fully tailored to your husbands measurements- so it's hassle free too. CONT'D-

AND- renting a tux for the wedding is cheesy- IMHO, and sort of gross. As brides- we get these glamorous gowns worth thousands of dollars... and they're stuck renting an outfit that countless other guys have worn. That's sort of weird to me- itailor get your guy a one of a kind suit, that is fully customize and special AND affordable. I'd do it- I did. Smiley smile Good luck, let me know how it works out for you.

Anyone considering buying a suit from iTailor should first consider my recent experience.

In June I ordered a suit from their online site. I paid £132 through Paypal.

When the suit arrived, on first inspection, it seemed well made until I tried it on. The jacket was so tight, it was very difficult to button (double breasted) and impossible to wear a sweater or vest underneath. The trousers were a close fit everywhere and likely to split the seams after a short time of movement even though I ordered 'comfort fit'. Worst of all, the leg length was over four inches too short.

Though I was measured by someone else, each measurement was checked twice, iTailor refused to remedy or refund.

Paypal decided in favour of iTailor because of their policy of not allowing refunds on 'custom made' items even if faulty which is entirely contrary to British and European Consumer Law (Paypal is registered in Luxembourg). I have now lost £132 and have a suit that is completely un-wearable.

Anyone interested may see a full report of my experience on my website (I promise that this is not spam):

    www.browns-gas.info.

For your information; iTailor are based in Phuket, Thailand
