Any other brides under 5 ft?

Cassie, on August 30, 2017 at 8:52 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

I'm just under 5 ft and my wedding is in 7 months. I haven't even begun to start dress shopping and my biggest concern is not finding a dress that will look right on me because of how short I am. Any other short brides here willing to post your wedding dress photos?

I'm 4'11, and I didn't have trouble finding a dress. I even went with a ballgown, despite hearing some "it'll swallow you!" comments.

Lots of designers gave petite sizing. Davids bridal, and mori lee are the ones I'm aware of- I'm sure there are plenty more as well!

I don't have any pictures BUT I was certain I didn't want to get a ball gown because I thought it would swallow me. I ended up with a ball gown and it just flows. Doesn't swallow at all. And I'm 5'2

I'm actually 5'2 but I had no problems! If the dress is too long on you, you can get it altered and they will shorten it. I was tripping over my dress a lot until I got it altered!

I don't think you'll have any problems. The consultant will be able to guide you.

I am also exactly 5ft and everything fit me fine in my bust and waist (some of the samples were too big and had to be clipped, but could be ordered in a smaller size). Just be aware that you will need to get a hem most likely

You shouldn't have an issue trying on dresses!

Thanks for your help everyone. I guess I'm just nervous about the whole experience. I've always had body issues and I just want to genuinely feel beautiful.

@Cassie - I felt the same way! I hate clothes shopping and was dreading going to the point where I didn't invite anyone - just my mom - because I was so worried about other opinions!

Just be go in having an idea of what you might like but also be open to what the consultant might suggest! They are professionals who experience who will be able to help direct you!

For example - I went in and said I wanted something Flowly with Lace that had a romantic feel to it. I told them I wasn't crazy about strapless but was open to trying it but DID not want a ball gown. I tried on a lot of A line dresses and some more flowy sheaths. Eventually a consultant picked a dress for me (the one pictured) after trying three or four dresses on, and suggested the dress I picked because she thought it might look nice! It had literally every thing I wanted and looked so amazing, and I never would have voluntarily tried on so form fitting of a dress!

Go in with your opinions of what you like, but if you're open and let the consultant do your job you will definitely find something!

I'm 5 even. If you wear heels, it will help with the dress, but I had no problem finding something I wasn't swallowed up in!

@Munchkin9218 - That is me to the T. I hate clothes shopping. I've had 2 babies via c-section and 2 surgeries right after in the same spot, so I have the c-section belly and I'm plus sized. I am kinda dreading the whole trying on dresses process because I don't want to get discouraged when something doesn't look right. But I do have ideas of what I like and will be open to trying things on. Thanks for your advice. I really appreciate it!

There was just a bride on SYTTD Atlanta the other day who was 4'8. She didn't have much trouble finding a dress. Good luck!

Right at 5 feet, the leftover fabric from the bottom of the dress was made in to a jacket Smiley smile

Don't worry! I am 5 ft! and had no issues dress shopping - yes the dresses will be super long when you try them, on but we short people should be used to that lol
