karla, on October 9, 2014 at 3:45 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 18

I'm really nervous about this for my wedding lol I don't want to be in pain and running to the bathroom in my dress multiple times. Anyone else worry this or have advice besides not eating lol

I Have it due to anxiety....I plan on taking my anxiety and immodium. My dr actually recommended it and ive tried it a bunch of times in my life. Works like a charm!

I will be loading up on Immodium. I don't think I can ask my maids to help me to the bathroom if bad things are happening.

Ever since I got my gallbladder taken out almost two years ago, I have to watch what I eat before going places that don't have a restroom. (There is an embarrassing mountain biking story when FH and I had only been dating a couple months) I just plan on being careful what I eat day-of.

I do, but luckily mine is alternating and often when I travel I have the opposite problem and can't go. Spent the wedding weekend backed up and then the entire week after in misery on the toilet all day. Stupid digestive system!

Take a preventative immodium or Tums or whatever usually helps you. Avoid greasy foods the week before as well or any other triggers you may have. The easiest things on the stomach are bland chicken or fish with steamed veggies. Try eating that for the week before your wedding and don't over do it on the day. Good luck!

I took my prescription (Lomotil) as my stomach was bothering me a bit in the AM (stress/nerves are a trigger for me) and was good the rest of the day (I took it a bit pre-emptively but hey...it was my wedding day!). Unfortunately one of the side effects of lomotil is painful bloating (for me), which didn't kick in til the end of the night, so I was uncomfortable when we got back to the hotel, but once out of my dress I was okay.

Avoid any foods that trigger you, have meds on hand, definitely.

I don't but my husband does. I told him to make sure he won't have any "problems". Lol. He ate pretty "clean" week of the wedding so he was fine. Just avoid foods that will bother you a few days before and day of of course. I barely ate or drank anything on my wedding day (plain bagels, nothing fancy) and didn't have to go to the bathroom at all on my wedding day. That was nice. lol

I have been worried as well! I plan on doing what these ladies are saying. Eat clean (my rehearsal dinner is two days before so the Italian doesn't effect me the next day). Watch the booze and take an imodium in the morning. I do plan on eating a dry bagel or toast beforehand to coat my stomach.

I have Crohn's, and my FH has IBS - match made in Heaven LOL

If you can take Immodium, take 2 in the morning, before breakfast or with it, and then take one pill about 30-45 minutes before the ceremony starts. If your ceremony is ending around 1pm, then just before the reception starts take 1 or 2 more, depending on how bad you have problems.

I'd mention that for me, the generic brand Immodium does not work as well as the brand name, so I end up having to take more through the day - may not be the case for everyone, but if you don't take it often, you should test it out ahead of time to see how your body reacts.

For cramps, I recommend going online and ordering BUSCOPAN for IBS - it's non-prescription and stops pain like Lomotil, but without the side effects! Take on in the morning when you get up and you should be good to go.

If you can't take Immodium, there are two tricks you can use:

    - Calcium (Tums/Rolaids)

    - Bismuth (Peptobismol / Kaopectate)

Your body cannot process large doses of calcium, and when it's passed through your system, it stops you up - it's the opposite of a laxative effect. You have to take several doses in a day, like 1400mg (2 Tums) in the morning, then 2 more later morning, to get the effect.

Bismuth also does the same thing - I like the chewables with cherry flavor, less gross LOL - but you take THREE in the morning, and then two more a few hours later, and you should be good for the day... you may want to take 2 more at the start of the reception as well for insurance.

Finally, if you are prone to gas as well, look for a product called "Gas Defense" from Schiff, we get it at the grocery store or CVS. IT's a capsule with natural probiotics in it that you take in the morning and it stops *intestinal* gas - not the stomach gas that makes you burp, but the kind that forms in the intestines when your body doesn't fully digest food. It says take 1 per day - my FH and I take 2 to 4 per day, depending on what we eat. They are a godsend!

Note: Buscopan is 50 cents a pill, but you will only need 1 for the day AND it also works wonders for menstrual cramps! (It's OTC medicine in at least 50 countries, and I buy it in Germany, France, UK, Canada, anywhere I go, it's so awesome).

Omg yes! Along with no gallbladder, hiatal hernia, extreme GERD and a sensitivity to gluten. I am terrified.

Forgot to mention, I also get hives, something called hypersensitive vasculitis, eczema and other weird rashes depending on diet. Mine is more alternating, and seriously I will look like like an 6 mos prego person if my belly decides to stop working. This happened last year - I ended up at the hospital! Double dose of a typical bowel prep after being too afraid to eat for 3 days is no joke lol. I ended up having to take potassium bc of imbalances and two antibiotics for SIBO I will begin a pretty clean diet in January and will be a Nazi about it all of July. I take all sorts of meds.

I'm not sure if I have it or not, but I do get digestive issues when I'm really anxious, and there are certain foods that sometimes trigger an immediate response... The thought of it being a problem on the big day has crossed my mind more than once. An immodium usually helps me.

Immodium, clean eating prior and if at all possible ensure at least one of the meal options at your wedding is IBS safe aka eat clean for a week, try the dish as a trial run and see how and if you react to it. This could go that little extra towards calming your worry about it.

Personally, my triggers vary at the drop of a hat (reactions similar but not actual IBS, are common in those with ME) so I'll be avoiding all my most common ones in the meal as well as FH offering to drop me off at our room at the venue, help me out the dress then come back and put it back on a little later IF the worst should happen and my insides don't wanna play nice. (sorry for the overshare ladies)

I had never heard of doing this. I bought some the other day. Just in case. Taking it before is a great idea. This is why I love this website. I don't think I would be where I am or walking down the Isle in 2 days without all you wonderful ladies.

Start experimenting now. I cut almost all sugar and had my issues 95% go away. Figure out your triggers....aside from stress, of course. Usually fatty, fried, dairy, chocolate. Raw veggies and some fruits can also be an issue. Eat slowly and chew well. Try starting meals with bread (no butter)...it can act as a buffer. IDK...these things work for me.

I had IBS for decades! Not eating gluten = no IBS.

I feel so betrayed by wheat.... And I loved you more than any other grain!
