Any other “so extra” flamboyant kind of brides?

Yam, on September 17, 2019 at 2:52 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 91
So I’m a week out and feeling the pressure to look like a classic/timeless/elegant bride from family and it’s just not me. I’m feeling down by the negativity. My attire is set in stone, I’m comfortable with what I’ve chosen but I’m definitely a “more is more” so extra kind of dresser so I’d really like to see some stories or photos of brides like that!

Fun hair?
Colored dresses?
Over the top accessories or makeup?
GLITTER!?

Please share so I can fawn over all of you.

Yam you know I'm extra. Purple dress, forests, a possible smoke bomb exit? I've been an odd theater kid my whole life. That ain't changing.

    Own it. It'll be fun!

Ok I have hair envy now. I want ALL of that!! My mom means well but she’s been making me feel pretty bad. She doesn’t like my ideas. I wanted fairy wings but it wasn’t worth a fight.

I really am sorry to hear that. I am sure that when the day comes and she sees how beautiful and happy you in all that fantasy extraness, she'll be thrilled for you. Don't ever hold yourself back! And I would still get the wings, even if only for pictures!

Smoke bomb exit!? Oh my gosh GIMMEE! I jist feel worn out from the negativity. I’m beginning to absolutely hate the word “elegant” now, who cares if someone regrets their photos 20+ years from now? What’s in trend today is always going to look bad to someone in the future. My mom thinks I’m going to look like a “clown” if I don’t dial it back.

I really hope so. Even my seamstress felt more supportive of my attire than my mom has. I haven’t even shown her my petal veil yet, she’ll hate the glitter. She’s always been supportive of my looks. She’s a former hairdresser so she’s the one that did my hair! I went to school with a green and blue faux hawk. I don’t understand why it matters on my wedding day.

Weddings make everyone act differently. She's probably thinking you'll regret it in 30 years when you're looking at your pictures. But only you know if this is what you really want or just what you want right now. So listen to that and do you!

I dyed my braids blue (though you can only see a little hint of the blue in the picture), H (no more FH ack!) had his hair red and we had dogs in our bridal party. We wanted a wedding that was unique and not like any others and we made sure it happened! We knew there'd be people who'd find fault with our ideas but that would be the case no matter what. You're never going to please everyone so make sure you're happy with it!

My mom has definitely not endorsed every decision I've made (ie, dress and bridesmaids wearing white) but she knows it's my day in the end. My feeling is, if you're a unique unicorn forest fairy, you've gotta be a unicorn forest fairy. You're not going through a phase. Why should you change who you are and be "elegant" on your wedding if you're fun and carefree during the rest of your life? You're more likely to regret your pictures if you aren't uniquely you. I get that it's a bummer that mom's not on board, and her comments are definitely rude, but weddings make people crazy. Besides, "elegant" doesn't equal traditional.

Hugs, friend. Remain full of joy.

Swoon! You’re like a fairy princess and I love your husband’s cool hair!! ❤️ My FH is having his super long hair dyed silver for the wedding, neither of us want to regret how we looked.
You’re right I can’t please everyone, which sucks because I’m a people pleaser. I just feel like I’m drowning in negativity.

Yeah she’s probably just trying to look out for me. She didn’t have a traditional wedding either, maybe that’s why she wanted me to have one. I really hope she just sees it all put together and understands.

Good golly do they make people crazy! My FH is so frustrated and over people telling him or I how to look. I do think we would regret not looking like us, that’s why no matter what happens I’m sticking to my idea! I just bought unicorn bottle labels, she’ll hate those too.

Thank you guys ❤️ I think once the day is here I’ll stop worrying about every little thing. The stress just comes and goes now. It’s almost over, there’s nothing I can change anyway. The last thing to do is get my nails done. You would think with nothing to do a bride could relax.

I am sure she will love it because it makes you happy. Your wedding is going to be talked about for a long time because of the uniqueness. Isn't that what we all want?

OMG I love these. I'm buying cans of seltzer with names like Mermaid Song and Unicorn Kisses for the wedding. No reason other than I want it!

WHAT I didn’t know they had names like that! I actually have a unicorn themed eyeshadow palette that your seltzer cans reminded me of, they have fun names like Mermaid Tears
I have our beverages picked out but haven’t made them yet. I originally wanted hibiscus tea with edible petals floating on top but it’s too expensive so we’re doing peach italian soda and strawberry lemonade plus bottled water and cola (mostly for dad), there’s so many cool drink ideas out there though. They make edible fine glitter for drinks too! Going to buy the supplies this weekend.
and I’m still thinking about fairy wings, sadly the ones I wanted are sold and they’re mostly a custom order so no time 🤔 but maybe Etsy has an in stock section.

I say wear the wings! I've had to remind my mom that she had her big day already and now it is time to let me have mine. I had to tell her this past weekend while meeting with the florist while her opinion is appreciated it is not needed once I made my final decision on a few things.
