Any poor people here getting married?

Ashley, on August 2, 2016 at 8:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 72

Hello! I was just wondering if they're any poor people, like myself that are planning a wedding? By poor I mean, living paycheck to paycheck, but even that isn't enough. Im asking because, I'm trying to find someone on here that I can relate to. What are you cutting out on your daily life, that can go towards your wedding? Even if its an elopement, things cost money. Mine is food, im only buying cheap food, and not eating out as much.

I'm sorry but if you are not making ends meet now you should get married at the courthouse. You can have a beautiful ceremony and not go further into debt.

What TacoCat said. Priorities, girl. One of the reasons FH and I had such a long engagement.

Lots of people here are cutting things out to save for their wedding. Or they're having very long engagements or making changes to their vision to have the wedding they can afford. Don't compare yourself to others, just plan a wedding within your means and do what you are comfortable with to get there!

I'm a teacher, I'm poor. I buy store brand EVERYTHING. Literally there are no name brands in my house. FH and I rarely go out to eat, I make coffee at home instead of buying it, we don't have cable whatsoever, etc. I got a second job to help save up for the wedding. I'm a firm believer in having the power to change your situation for something you want badly enough.

@ashley k. We are going through that as well! It's stressful but we are trying to not eat out as much and we're getting married on a Tuesday. We are real with people and say we don't have much to spend on a wedding, people understand!

I'm currently working full-time now, and go to college at night, my FH works full-time also, but he watches the kids at night, so I can go to school.. And just to clarify we are not in DEBT , we are just on the poor side of the economy. Smiley smile

Maybe you should push your date back , I was supposed to get married March 12 , I fell at work and broke my ankle and I pushed it back so fast until I healed from surgery and etc , I am just now going back this Thursday I been off since March of last year . Fh handle his business and worked overtime, doubletime since I was only on workers compensation and we have three GROWING teenagers in this house. Push it back who cares what anybody has too say including family or friends if they helping pay for a DAMN THANG!

I got a second part time job at David's bridal. I currently go to school for education and am a substitute during the school year. Once school starts back up later this month, I will use all of my David's bridal pay checks in order to pay off the rest of the wedding.

I understand what you mean Andrea, when I was looking at venues, I was very honest with them. I told them flat out what $$ I was looking to spend with fees and taxes, because I didn't want to waste any of there time.

That would be me. I live from pay check to pay check.

Eating out is one I had to cut out. Another for me is learning to say no to others with regards to borrowing and spending.

I separated my account so that I budget using only what I need and putting the rest in savings as if I'm broke

My mom offered to pay for the huge wedding she thought I envisioned but it wasn't what I wanted. We're going to be eloping and having dinner with a few family members after the fact, but definitely cut down on cable, eating out, buy yourself off brand ALWAYS and keep an eye out for weekly specials at the grocery store. We save money by always having a meal plan and never overspending on food we may or may not eat before it spoils. I'm always picking up extra shifts, as is he. But we've both always been the type to try and excel at work.. So we've had the benefit of him moving up at work very quickly and getting a few raises.

Also remember to bargain with them! No price is ever set in stone. I would be honest up front! If they back out or don't want to work a deal with you why give them your business!
