Hello! I was just wondering if they're any poor people, like myself that are planning a wedding? By poor I mean, living paycheck to paycheck, but even that isn't enough. Im asking because, I'm trying to find someone on here that I can relate to. What are you cutting out on your daily life, that can go towards your wedding? Even if its an elopement, things cost money. Mine is food, im only buying cheap food, and not eating out as much.

I agree with Ashley K that's exactly what we did. We also cut out the wants and not the needs in our everyday and for our wedding. I'm always on the look out for bargains and I use my business license to get discounts. Pushing back the date is something I see other brides suggest a lot but we want to be married on the day we picked and so should you!! All the best to you. You can do it :-)

I'm actually getting a promotion in October, right after my Wedding my salary is going to double, so I was thinking about pushing back my Wedding a year, so I could have a wedding I dreamed about , and not settle for what I can afford. But at the same time I'm embarrassed to do that. I told everyone I'm getting married, it's already hard when people ask , how the wedding planning is going ..

Ashley, don't feel pressured to have a wedding you're not comfortable with. You'll end up resenting people. If you would feel better moving the wedding, do it! Otherwise, go to the courthouse and then have your dream vow renewal in year 5.

Many people push their dates back so they can save more money.. Maybe that and get a second job? I work 9-5 on the weekdays and bartend on the weekends for extra dough. FH as well.. Prioritize what is important. Maybe do a courthouse wedding if you are dead set on getting married on your date listed and do an early cake and punch. Boom easy. ETA saw you are getting promoted, push it back and have the wedding you want girl.

Just in general, not due to the wedding.

We combined car insurance under one plan(with our homeowners) it saves us over 100 a month.

We don't have cable, we have the lowest phone plan for our needs.

I meal plan weekly, using everything up.

Spare change left over, and 1 dollar bills get put into a jar to be put into savings.

I make coffee everyday, pack water around so I don't buy it when thirsty.

We don't buy soda, or snack foods.

We maybe eat out once a month, sometimes more depending on the situation.

For birthdays and holidays, we set a max amount to spend total, if we spend less, we don't buy extra just to hit that budget.

Honestly, if you are that tight on money, go to the courthouse in a nice dress, and go to dinner with your parents. It won't make it less of a wedding.

Don't worry about what people think! If anything people will applaud you & say how much they agree. When I had a 2 year engagement planned so I could enjoy my planning process, everyone agreed that was an amazing idea!

I had $100 from each and every paycheck put into another account that wasn't linked to my checking account. After the first or second time I didn't even notice it anymore. Mind you I did use tax refund money for a large chunk of ours but that savings is what I'm using now for final payments and stuff. It helped...

You are so not alone. We have been trying to figure some things out. FHs father past away in March so we are also paying off the funeral (no life insurance or savings). He did have a car which we sold so that helped a little. Thankfully FHs truck will be paid off this month as well so the amount we paid for that a month will now go to the wedding. We've stopped spending extra on anything. My birthday is this coming Friday and I've told FH several times when asked what I wanted not to get anything, I'd rather any extra money go to the wedding. The same goes for any other holiday or anniversary. Just make a budget, invite as few people as possible and stick to it!

I googled "Why are weddings so damn expensive?" when I started planning.

This came up. Please watch it. It will really help!

So far, I have been very firm in my budget with all my Vendors and most of them were able to accommodate. The only thing I have overspent was the dress.....yeah, the wedding industries got me on that one!!

Long engagement for this reason but any help from friends and family is going to help. Also, diy is going to be your friend.

We are having a long engagement to cover the expense of our wedding. We have cut out a lot of things (no Starbucks for me) Smiley winking We also set a strict budget and created a money challenge to put so much in an account bi weekly. It's hard but we are committed.

OP, just do me a favor and don't count on that future promotion to pay for your wedding. I think it's great that that's on the horizon, but until it's in the rear view mirror, it's not more money in the bank. I'm not trying to be a downer, but things change with every business/career and I just don't want you to come back all upset in a few months because you put down deposits, only to have the promotion fall through and you can't afford what you thought you could.

Just a thought: if you have your heart set on something more of a celebration and event than a courthouse wedding, I would push the date back versus having a fancier vow renewal later. I don't think your guests will be half as enthusiastic to celebrate a vow renewal as they would a wedding that was a long time coming. Do you know what I mean? Like I don't think I would be excited to even go. It just doesn't sound nearly as important or exciting as a wedding.

I'm a college nursing student getting married October 2017 and I am super poor. Work has been cutting hours and I haven't got to work much so I have made major adjustments. My MIL is cooking the food for my wedding because she has experience cooking for youth groups of almost 200 and I have DIYed everything I can, my centerpieces I made all of them I made my bouquet and my bridesmaids I am making my flower girls stuff and aisle decor. I am still having my wedding at a barn that cost $2500 but they did a payment plan with me. My dress was simple but beautiful for $599 and I didn't buy a veil instead I made one for about $3 as opposed to $50 I have a family friend who offered to be our photographer and I'm not doing a Dj just making a playlist on my phone to plug up to the speakers and have another friend who is going to sing for our first dance. As for budgeting my money I have stopped eating out completely and home cook everything and make freezer meals for like 2 weeks because I get paid no weekly. I have made any and every cut and done whatever I can myself so that I'm not paying buckets for a wedding.
