Any size 12/14 brides care to share?

Hi! I have my first dress appt in 3 weeks and I'm just curious to see "real brides" that are my size. I know this size isn't that big but I'm feeling self conscious already. Show me how beautiful you look in your gowns! I'm thinking the small samples won't even fit me.

I wear size 12 in jeans/pants and a large in most shirts. I was so nervous to go dress shopping because I didn't think anything would be flattering. I went in with an idea of what I wanted and came out with something totally different. Just have fun, don't stress, and keep an open mind about different styles. You are going to look beautiful no matter what dress you choose!

I bought my dress off the rack and it fit like a glove! The only alterations I will need for sure is length and possibly waist/bust depending on how much weight I lose before my first fitting.

My first time shopping for gowns was a disaster. The salon only had 3 gowns that would fit me and I didn't like either of them. I didn't know how bridal gown sizing worked. The salesperson kept trying to convince me to buy one of her gowns (that I couldn't get over my hips) and had me out in the salon area with my undies out!...it was the worst!

I researched and found salons for "curvy" women (I'm a street size 14 and 18-20 in gowns) and found 3 in the DC area. I wanted to be able to try several different types of silhouettes and several options. I was able to try on a sheath, ballgown, A-line, trumpet and mermaid before deciding on my dress!

I agree with the other ladies, research and find a good salon/boutique and you'll be fine.

I was a size 12/14 pants when I got my dress, which was a 16 with a corset.

I'm a 10/12 street size, but my gown had to be ordered in an 18. At first I was crushed, especially since the 18 was already pretty snug on my hips and I've gained weight since they measure me last. I'm horrified of my next appointment with them, terrified of hearing they have to order a 20 just to fit my hips. Bridal is such a weird sizing system, it's crazy!

As far as my dress shopping experience in general, a could get into a lot of dresses, which was pleasantly surprising. I went to local boutiques only, I didn't like anything from the DB website at the time, and they had a large variety of sizes and styles at each one! I also had amazing consultants.

I normally wear a size 14 or 16, and I had no problem finding samples that were large enough. I actually ended up finding a dress off the rack and am having to get it taken in some. I think it's a (wedding dress) size 20

I'm usually a 14 and my dress is a 14. I was told dresses would run small but mine didn't.

My dress is a 16 and I'm a street size 7-9. A little tight on the top when I initially found the dress, but it has a zipper and I'm adding a lace up corset instead so it will fit much better. I love my dress!!

I'm a street size L/XL or 10/12 usually and my dress is a 14. I was so focused on hiding my curves i kept trying on silhouettes that ultimately looked awful on me. Step out of your comfort zone and try something you would never pick off the rack. The worst that can happen is you dont like it and move on. I never would have picked this dress from photos. I still dont like it on other people but i love it on me lol

Okay, I've been lurking a bit on this post and have to throw in my two cents. The models online DO actually give a good representation of the dresses, if you look at the right ones. I was curious myself if the dresses online were a good representation and so I combined the online photos with my own dress searching. These all came from Davids Bridal, just so you know. I feel like I look just like the models... Please excuse the stupid faces I make, I look retarded in photos because my face is so expressive but you freeze it and I look like I'm having a seizure, LOL.

I wear size 14 pants and my dress was a size 16! I went to a smaller dress shop and the first few dresses I tried didn't even fit! I found this one on the consignment rack!
