Any tips for a DIY boudoir shoot?

Haley, on October 10, 2017 at 4:14 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 14

Has anyone done their own or know someone who has done their own boudoir shoot and can give some tips? I know FH would love it if I did one but they're so expensive! And you only get a few photos! I'd rather rent nice equipment and do it myself, in the comfort of my own home. Plus then we'd get all the pictures! I just don't really know how I would go about it. All I know right now is to have wine at the ready, and I'll be using some of his button downs. Other than that I'm a little lost.

Also this picture has nothing to do with this but I just wanted to share.

Um, do you have a camera?

I feel like if you have to ask, they probably won't turn out that great. If you don't have the money I would just skip it.

The point of a boudoir session is to capture your beauty. Without some type of experience, I doubt these homemade pictures will turn out even an eighth as good as a professional photographer could offer you. It's well worth the money. Maybe do it as a one year anniversary gift to give you time to save instead.

There's a reason there are professional photographers. DIY will just look like an attempt at porn.

@EM the only camera I have is my phone. Which is why I wanted to rent a nice camera and probably a tripod.

I know how to edit photos pretty well so I'm fine there. It's just the actual taking of pictures- mainly posing myself- that I'm not really sure what to do on.

I've seen a DIY boudoir- it was really bad.

that only works if you're a professional photographer with all the right shit. Hire a pro- it will be cheaper than renting.

Don't DIY this. If you want DIY pictures- take them with your phone and text them. Like the rest of us.

Definitely spend the money on an experienced photographer (or wait a year from now like FutureVC suggested). A lot of the professionals are able to do your hair and makeup as well (from what I've seen this is included) and put you in poses that help accentuate your beauty and make you comfortable while doing so! From what I've heard, you won't even realize there's a person taking pics of you in your sexy underwear if you have the right person.

Photoshop will only go so far. I think it's a lot more work than its worth. Save up a bit and hire a pro.

Welp. I definitely don't want it to end up looking like sexting/ porn lol. Maybe I will wait to do it on our anniversary like @futurevc suggested.

    Thanks for the input guys!

    @catlady LOL!

OP, I would not recommend it. Find someone who knows what they're doing, you won't regret it.

In that case just send FH some good ole fashioned selfie nudes. You can print them and put them in an album for the same effect.

I had a boudoir photo shoot that I have to my FH for Christmas. The pictures were taken by a good friend with a DSL camera and I had another friend come over and help me position and stage me. We took pictures around the house in the early morning. I made them breakfast and mimosas and we had a ton of fun. My friend gave me a flash drive with the pics, and I edited them on my computer with photoshop. It was awesome, and I have never felt more beautiful, and seeing my FH look through them and the look in his eyes... perfection.

I think you can definitely DIY with a close friend, but you may need to a friend that has some experience with a camera already (hobby level at least). Also, a major con of this approach was how time consuming it was! But it was very satisfying and a wonderful bonding experience with my friends and my FH.

I found inspiration for poses on Pinterest and google (just googled boudoir).

Keep an eye on local photographers like Kate said! That's how I found mine, via Instagram. I followed a handful of photographers who were all friends, in their early 20's who were starting their photography style blogs and doing photo shoots often, and one offered a budoir session for 200 bucks, it includes the hair and makeup too Smiley smile

I’m doing Polaroid boudoir style photos with my sister. Find a friend or sibling your comfy with to photograph you. Look up some YouTube videos on boudoir photography and mimic the shots if you can’t afford it.
