Any Tips On How To Decorate Picnic Tables For A Reception?

Heather, on April 14, 2009 at 9:18 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 7

We got a really good deal on a garden venue for our ceremony and included in the price is a large covered picnic area required for the reception. I know how I want to decorate the covering itself, but I can't figure out what to do with the tables. There are large metal picnic benches bolted to the floor...I can cover the top with tablecloths but I don't know what to do to make the benches look appealing and feel comfortable for my guests.

I'm not sure what your budget is or what you picture in your mind, but if it were me this is how I would do it.

I'm thinking Kings palace or Arabian nights. Tables are draped in real nice fabric. The benches are draped in nice fabric and each guest has a pillow for their spot. The venue is draped in airy curtains done in dark rich colors. I see big lush tassels to pull each curtain back. If not tassels then I see gold cords or fabric with a flower tucked into the knot. There are Mediterranean lamps on each table with dark flowers and lots of greens. tall bamboo vases on the floor with tall ostrich feathers inside. For the floor I would purchase outdoor carpeting from Lowe's or Home Depot. Its gorgeous and not too pricey. I would cover the floor in it and cut around the tables to make them fit into it. --- Now if your going for a more country feel then this was just a waste of your reading time...lol Good luck!!

I also am at a garden outside space with the picnic tables although ours are wooden and not bolted to the ground. For decor we are placing linen tablecloths over the tops adn we are purchasing foam from jo anns craft store and placing these on the seat part we are covering this with fabric that we found on sale and we are just stapling it to the underside of the seat. We have tried it out on the picnic table that we have at home and it looks super cute so i hope it will look good with several tables like this. The tables will be placed on the grass and we are having small pieces of outdoor carpet under them (to protect the girls shoes hehe). It is the best we could do with what we were given!

Why dont you just go with chair covers like you would do if you was haveing it indoors.See how long and wide the benches are and start looking for some place that may could help you size them and you also could do it by going to a ficbic store and make it do what it do you know what mean. IT will work out GOOD LUCK

You could cover them with fabric to look pretty and then as a favor give them a throw pillow/seat cushions to sit on and then take home? Maybe you could find fun shapes like flowers or hearts, or just use the color(s) of your wedding. I'm sure you could even find a simple pillow pattern and make them yourself for cheap if you are a crafty person.

We too are having this problem...ugly metal picnic tables. I think I like the pillow idea and having them double as a guest favor. It's different, unique, and appropriate for the wedding. Plus, you're guests just might need a new dining room makeover and your wedding seat cushions could be the answer Smiley smile (I would attach some kind of "uses" tag. ex: this cushion is great for picnics, extra cushion for church benches or even ball games
