Anybody else love planning?

Alexis, on April 19, 2022 at 10:26 AM Posted in Community Conversations 2 23
My wedding’s a good ways away in October 2023, but I’m a bit planner so I pretty much already have everything planned down to party favors & flower girl petals. Nothing’s booked yet because we have to move up to that state in August to look at venues, but I already know which ones I’ll try to book.

Everyone always talks about how stressful planning is but I LOVE it. Fiancé feels bad about not contributing more to planning because she doesn’t care as much but I’m happy as a clam planning everything myself and running my ideas past her to make sure she likes them too. Am I the only one???

Haha I literally moved on to helping other people I know plan THEIR weddings 😂 I’ve also developed a strong interest in wedding gown shows to cope

Yes same! I’m pretty sure my fiancés head is still spinning from how fast I’ve been planning/booking lol. I absolutely love it. I plan corporate events so it’s been so fun planning something for myself and family/friends. I’m afraid I won’t have much to do next year haha

I am not very big on planning and setting up events and this has been one of the more stressful things i have done. How did you ladies feel about finding a venue and the different options for catering, and music and everything! Any advice would help tremendously!

Do a pinboard first!! Different styles and types of decorations, ie rustic, fancy, minimalist, burlesque, etc. Once you have an idea of what visuals you like you can filter venues by that—we’re doing a barn and rustic.

For catering and music I tend to look up wedding catering and music in X area, filter by reviews and then go through those options’ websites to find packages, prices, and in terms of catering foods we liked.
For catering, it’s more cost effective to do simpler foods that everyone likes instead of very fancy foods—between the dancing and guest greetings, you won’t have too much time to sit and eat as it is anyway!
For music, make sure they include things like microphones along with just DJ equipment so your speeches can get directed!

Sorry, do you mean you like wedding style and design? How are you able to plan and book vendors if you don't have a venue date and calendar timeline? For myself, I only liked handling budgets and invitations. My spouse had all other grander ideas. Best wishes!

I thought I would love it but I’ve hated it lol. It’s been so stressful. But I’ve also been trying to start a business, research and buy the right RV that will support us traveling full time with my business and our cat, support my fiancé through job searching to be remote for the RV, knowing I’ll have to move out of my apartment a week before my wedding, dealing with a very terrible day job and remodeling said RV all before October (when I only started planning last October) has probably made it a more stressful process than if I was JUST planning a wedding 😅 all that in a year has been a bit rough. Not to mention the wedding is 4 1/2 hours away.

We also might get a kitten in a month so…..send positive thoughts because I think we’ve lost our minds lmao

I just get lists of preferred vendors that I’m planning on touring/taste testing/etc that I’ll be able to book once I’m there! Knowing what kinds of venues and vendors you like and having a list of the few in the area you’re looking at are super helpful for narrowing down your options.

That's great. Best wishes that you get your preferred vendors. Many on this forum and in the news have noted high wedding demand with Covid postponements and vendors booked through 2023.

I love it! When I was in college I really wanted to be a wedding planner and even interned for one, so getting to make all the plans and decisions has been great! We also had to postpone due to covid and career reasons, so I'm thrilled to finally get to dive into it.

I think one of our saving graces has been finding vendors that offer a combo of services. Our reception venue has their own catering staff, bar staff, and tables, chairs, plates, silverware, etc., so once we got that booked we had already knocked out a few different things. It also saved a bunch of money since there aren't travel fees and the setup/ tear down is less (if anything) since everything is on site.

I have fun when picking out things of what I wanted I did ask his opinions on some things other than that it pretty much was all me. My daughter's gave some input. But the only stressful part of it for me is the guest list and now sending out the invitations. Because I have called text and even emailed ppl and then asking him too double check ppl address and numbers. Now I am dealing with retraction ppl addresses because I am getting returned invitations because of the wrong information that is driving me crazy other than that I'm ok

I love the idea of a wedding. I love the idea of my wedding planner planning it even better. I don’t have the time or patience to plan.

I feel like I was when we first got engaged two years ago, but now I’m burnt out with things getting so close. I keep running into problems. The designer changed the dye lot for my bridesmaid dress color without warning, so they all came in in the wrong color. I had to reorder them and pick a different color that more closely matched my palette. I spent a year working on the invitation design with some woman and they finally came in and there is a massive space between the month and day for some reason, but I don’t have time to reorder them now. Our hotel that we booked a block of rooms for (who said we could reserve more rooms once they filled), said our block was full and can no longer provide additional rooms, so we had to find a new hotel and also edit our invitation details card. We also have to figure out transportation since there are now multiple hotels. I also keep getting ghosted by makeup artists. So yeah, I’m over it.

I LOVE it as well. I've always loved planning parties and events. Honestly I love planning in general. I love design, decor, etc. So even at times when it's stressful, I'm still having fun.

Oof, that’s rough dude. I made my invitations on Zola in a few days, and my bridespeople are picking their own dresses in the color scheme to avoid the extra cost of buying them myself. I guess I’ve been planning in a way that decreased some of the problems other people have 😅

I love it tooooooooo!!! I also always hear how stressful and horrible and people ask me "how it's going, it must be so much? Stressed??" Like, no actually, I enjoy this. 😅👋 I know everybody has different experiences and when I hear some stories on here, it sounds AWFUL but I'm lucky because my priorities are right, and nobody is actively trying to upset me. 👍😅

I also love it. I didn't necessary want a wedding, but with the pandemic and not being able to travel/plan travel, it's a good thing to keep busy. We had a longer engagement, since we got engaged at the beginning of the pandemic and wanted to wait until 2022 to get married, so we were able to spread out the planning.

I'm also getting married October 2023. I love the planning and I know I'll miss it once it's over. We've booked most of our vendors, and many of them were booked for multiple dates in 2023 as of last year. Maybe it's different where you're getting married, but I had vendors turn me down in 2021 because they were already booked.

We would love to start booking now, but unfortunately we’re getting married in a state we’re moving to in August, so we can’t do any tastings or walk through a or anything until we get there 😅
