Anybody else not using a limo?

Chesty LaRue, on March 3, 2011 at 9:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 43

I was thinking that instead of spending hundreds of dollars for use of a vehicle for a few hrs I would rent two large luxury SUVs for the entire weekend. Thats the entire BP party can go to rehearsal and move about and still get to the wedding. Its not like anybody will see us get out of the vehicles I think we mostly likely get dressed at the venue and transportation to the reception will be quick as the venue is 3 miles from the church. Is this a good/feasible idea? Or does anyone see it as tacky?

I dont think its tacky. It kinda sounds like fun. You also could save money by eliminating them all together. We are having our ceremony and reception in the same place so we not hiring and transportation.

I am not doing a limo. Doing ceremony/ reception in same place and don't think it is worth the expense. Save the money and use it on the things that are more important to you. That is never tacky.

Its not tacky at all. When I was having my bigger wedding before family issues. I was talking to people about renting a school bus. Yes, you read that right. A school bus. Because honestly I found the idea cute (me and fh met in high school like 6-7 years ago and prom themed wedding too.) So it just do what you think is best. Smiley smile And that sounds like a pretty good idea.

Not tacky @ all. It makes sense! Check out all the rental companies as well as NEXT CAR Rental. They tend to have luxury vehicles. But really if you rented two Suburbans or Expeditions. You'll be fine.

We are driving in together in FH car. We are staying @ Sheraton and getting dressed there lol!

We are not getting a limo since the ceremony is across the alley in our neighbors yard, then we are all hopping on the harleys/motorcycles to head to the reception.

I've been kind of wondering the same thing...it's about an 8 minute drive from the church to the reception hall (not to mention the fact that the church is like 5 blocks from my house) so I feel like money would be wasted on a limo.

I'd get members of the bridal party to rent the vehicle (cover the costs) and be responsible for it. Consider renting a special car for the two of you to leave in- or have your own hidden somewhere. That way, you don't have to worry about making sure the vehicle is cared for. If you rent it- no one else can drive it. On your wedding night- do you really want to have to chauffeur your bridal party home?

But why can't you just save the money and have everyone drive their own cars? That's the easiest- and then if someone needs something, they can just go get it and they aren't stuck there if they need to leave early.

Most of my guest and more than half of the BP will be traveling from out of town by greyhound bus. No one will be returning home right after the wedding and everyone will most likely b staying at the same hotel.

We used our minivan, driven by my son, as our getaway car. Since our bridal party was small (two people), that was enough to carry the whole wedding party, plus all our decor, dresses, etc. I couldn't see the point of spending hundreds of dollars for a limo.

Our wedding and ceremony are in the same venue. So, we just have to walk to the ceremony and than roll back to the rooms after the reception.

@Softail...I am so hoping we can have our maiden ride as Mr. and Mrs. The FH keeps saying it depends on how cold it is. WTF? I only want a ride for a mile and back.

We are not using a limo because no one would ever see it! We will already be at the cermony in the dressing rooms when guests arrive and we will be arriving to the reception after pictures. The reception will be in the hotel we will stay that night so we wouldn't be leaving either.

I live in an area where limos are far and few between.

So we are renting a 15 passanger van from the dealership I work at for the weekend. Decorating it and using it to get to rehersal dinner as a group.

We have hired my 20 year old cousin to drive the wedding party to the church, then the hall, then back to the hotel so we dont have to worry about anyone drinking and driving. The van for the weekend is $100
