Anybody ever ordered their dress online?? Advise please! Thanks!

WifeyPoo, on March 1, 2017 at 5:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I am trying to keep my gown budget around $600, and while I know there are places in my city (Houston) to find that price, I have been looking online as well. I've found some I really, really like and as far as I can tell, at least ONE of the two websites seems legitimate. I would not be able to try any dress on. I would have to give my measurements and hope they send me something beautiful that fits and that I love. Is this worth doing to save money and if I love the dress? Has anyone done this before? Has anyone purchased from pgmdress.com or bohojoy.com? Pgmdress.com is the one I found a handful of dresses on that are gorgeous and very inexpensive. They will only refund if something is damaged or entirely the wrong color, not necessarily if the dress doesn't fit. I am also wondering if it is too risky to order a size or two too large and expect to have alterations made when it arrives? Any thoughts anyone?? PS wedding won't be until March of 2018, so I would have time to order/fix

I actually ordered my dress online through Anthropologies wedding brand BHLDN and I could not be more pleased with my decision. It can be risky to do the online ordering you are looking to do, but if it's the best decision for you don't let anyone tell you differently.

One thing you could do is try on dresses similar to the one online so you can see if you like the shape of the dress on yourself. Or you can try to browse for store sales.

I would not go that route either. If you're in Houston that means you're near BHLDN. They have really pretty dresses on sale right now that would be in your price range.

I think ordering online is ok if you are ordering from someplace like BHLDN that is a reputable company with a good return policy. I'd hestitate to order from someplace that wouldnt allow me to return.

I would try David's Bridal--they have plenty of gorgeous dresses under $600 and have sales all the time.

Cautionary tale: I purchased two dresses online (one from dressilyme and the other from David's Bridal) and while they were beautiful neither fit the way they were supposed to. Even after giving measurments. You save money on the dress then turn around and spend the savings on having alterations done. This is coming from a plus size bride who didn't think I could get a in any brick and mortar store that would fit me. I found the perfect for me dress at David's Bridal for less than 500 bucks. They me sure you in store and help you find the right size since some run small. Since you have time i might suggest shopping around and wait for a sale on the dress of your dreams. Good luck!

I wouldn't do it, unless it's from a company like BHLDN. Take pictures of the dresses you love to shops with you... they should be able to point you in the right direction! I got my dress from a consignment shop. Check around and see if there are any in Houston!

Looks like I will be checking out BHLDN! Lots of mentions already about it so thank you all for that! And consignment shops too, for sure. I will hold off from ordering online and go the route of trying dresses on in stores. Thank you everyone for all the quick feedback!! I'll post updates!

Hopefully this helps future brides looking online as well. xoxo

Do not order anything from Pgmdress. com - the make the dresses in China and they do not make them the way the picture looks. You can only post likes in their page - can’t post complaints and of course they claim the dress was within 5 percent of the original - try 99 percent ! Can’t get return form either!!

I got my dress from a consignment shop that sold sample dresses and unsold retail dresses for $600. (Granted alterations were $600 but that's a longer story). I also tried on many dresses at BHLDN and also almost got a dress there for $400. My friend got a dress there for a couple hundred (alterations though were also $400 for her b/c she lost weight after buying the dress). Finally another option is modcloth.com. They tend to have less formal dresses but definitely below $600. I bought my rehearsal dinner dress for $65 on sale.

I ordered a customized dress that was very specific to my requirements. Pgmdress's customer service has been extremely good. I got my dress on time and exactly the way I wanted. Really happy with my purchase and quality of craftsmanship

I ordered a dress for a formal event. Came in mail with a funny smell. Dress looked nothing like the picture. It fit horribly and was made from cheap material. The dress was also a completely different color. It looked like a 4 year old sewed on these ugly beads. They wanted me to take pics of the dress so they could resolve the problem.

I took pictures and they said that based off of there perception from the PICTURE the dress fit me perfectly and there would be no refund. That is absolutely unacceptable. The company does not get to decide based off of a bathroom picture if the dress fits me or is flattering to me. The dress fit me horribly. It was massive on me.

I should not have to send photos in the first place. The dress didn't fit me. I would also like to say that Jay in their customer service department was rude and condescending in all our exchanges. I'm shocked. I've never had such a gross experience with a store.

I'll include the email exchanges below.
