Anybody using flameless tealight candles?

krisalicious, on February 5, 2012 at 12:20 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 23

Or have you used them before? Just wondering if they look super fake and tacky, or if you can hide them well with a frosted votive cup. Smiley smile

We used them inside the food signs for the buffet. They definitely don't look like real candles if you can see them. But you'd have to experiment with a frosted votive.

I think it depends how they are going to be used. It's for some backlighting it will be fine, because you won't see that they aren't real flames, but if it is somewhere where it might look more like a flashlight, that might not be so good. It's probably also depends on they type of flawless candle. I'm sure there are all different qualities and styles out there.

I'm going to use them at the kids table. There will be 4 toddlers so I thought that would be a safer optionSmiley smile

We are using them in all our centrepieces. We decided since it is safer for everyone, doesn't leave a mess and our reception is from 5:30 p.m. until around 2 a.m. so need something that lasts along time. We are using metal decorative votive cups.

I would look around for good ones for the votive holders.. I've tried some cheap-o ones and they really do look cheap and not so bright either.. but I think Michael's might have some nice ones.. I haven't tried LED ones that I think would work much better.. the flame will always look tacky if looked at directly, but the flicker tends to look real when covered and as someone who has seen pretty fake lights, I was always amazed when I looked in to see the little plastic flame.

    Thanks guys!

Basically - I'm looking for votives that I can place underneath a cake stand. Our bakery came through after all for our cake centerpieces. I want to light up the table a little bit, but real votives get kind of hot and I'm afraid the icing will melt. Smiley smile Plus our dinner is served family style, it makes me nervous to have actual candles on the tables with dishes being passed and jostled around.

I wonder if it would be weird if I flipped a frosted votive cup upside down? That would cover up the plastic "flame". Smiley smile

If it's underneath a cake stand just for light.....IDK. I have centerpiece schizophrenia this week. Smiley smile

If it's underneath, I wouldn't sweat it.. honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about it since it will be inside of the cups ;P

    I think they are awesome.

#1 - they are safer. so you dont have to worry about anyone catching anything on fire.

#2 - they are a lot easier to turn on. you dont have to have a bunch of people go around with lighters. its just a flick of a switch

    #3 - they last longer!

if people at your reception are really going to judge you for having flameless candles, they need to get a life.

I think it kinda depends on your situation. If you will be outdoors how can you use something that has a flame on it? It will be constantly blowing out? Flameless would obviously be the way to go - duhhh. Plus they are safer for the environment if you are outside as well, you don't have to worry about them getting tipped over and starting a fire. And since we will be out side this is exactly what we have to do. I have very limited access to electricity and will be running the DJ equipment off of a generator as it is so most of my lighting has to be battery operated. What choice do I have?

We decided to go with the flameless tealights for our table numbers. We are getting the flickering ones so they have more of a "real" candle feel.

I had some going side by side the other day (real & fake) and it's not terribly noticable.

I saw them at Big Lots & Dollar Tree yesterday - great prices so don't buy them on line. :-)

IM with Carly and Kimm, i am having an outdoor reception and kinda NEED flameless candles, for obvious reasons, but again, i dont want to SEE them a frosted votive does the job... it adds a warm bit of light and serves its purpose. I too think if someone had as issue with that, its their problem.

Our venue is requiring us to use them, and I was thinking of putting them inside some mercury glass votive holders .... anyone know where a good place is to get them reasonably?

Not tea lights but using LED pillar candles to line the stairs of our venue. We couldn't use real candles...hope people don't think I'm tacky!

Oh good! I'll go pick some up today and just see how they look.

FMC LOVE that idea! Where did you get them reasonably priced? Totally doing that on these stairs:
