Anyone choosing gardenia for your wedding bouquet?

Carrie, on March 17, 2013 at 11:21 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10

I love gardenias! The gardenias in my backyard were blooming when my FH proposed to me. So I'd love to incorporate them into my bouquet. But, I've heard horror stories about them turning brown and wilting in the heat. Our wedding is in August in NC, so I'm concerned the same will happen to me. Has anyone used or is planning on using gardenias in their bouquet?

I love them too but they are expensive! We are going to use them for the mothers corsages.

I would never suggest that you do your own bouquet while handling and storing gardenias. Yes, the horror stories are true. They are fabulous, but very delicate (not to mention expensive).

Talk to your florist about your concerns. If she's a professional, she'll deliver an excellent product.

I wanted gardenias but my florist talked me out of them because of how fragile and expensive they are. :-(

Maybe I can choose to have just one in my bouquet. And if for some reason it wilts in the hot sun, then I can pull it out. Thanks for the help ladies Smiley smile I would just LOVE to have a pic of our rings with the gardenia. Ooh another idea... Maybe if our gardenia is blooming, then I can cut and give to my florist to use.

There are some really, really good looking Silk or real touch gardenias you can incorporate into other Real flowers to give you that look with out the expense or worry of real gardenias and no one but you will know there not. Ive worked with them for years as a florist you can not touch them at all. when they come in they will have a ring of leaves around them and they will already be wired there easy to work with as long as you no how also your going to want to make sure they stay cool till the ceremony and pictures.

I put silk gardenias in my bouquet. Many years later they still look great.

Carrie- did you put gardenias in your bouquet and if so how did they work out for you? My florist cautioned me against them because "they brown easily" which kind of annoys me because I feel like if they are that great of a florist they should know how to work with them so that wouldn't be a problem. I'm getting married in early May so the heat wouldn't be a problem at least... Anyone else have completed reviews on how gardenias worked for them? The real thing- not silk. The smell is intoxicating and I want it.

I did not have any gardenia in my bouquet Smiley sad my florist said they would not hold up and I trusted her opinion. They do brown really easily after the slightest touch. I know from experience w handling the ones in my yard. You could always ask her to put a few in places that could be easily plucked out if they do brown. Keep in mind though most flowers come in bundles of ten.
