Anyone do crossfit?

About to be Mrs. Nic, on November 21, 2013 at 3:37 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 13

Did/is anyone doing crossfit to shed for the wedding? I've heard it's somewhat expensive...is it worth it?

I did it for 3 years in college. It depends on what results you're trying to get. If you do it, and follow a healthy eating lifestyle, you'll gain a lot of muscle. If you're trying to lose inches for a wedding gown, for example, it's probably not your best bet. It can be an awesome workout routine for the right person.

I do I do!! And I love it.

Been doing cf for about a year and a half now.. only lost about 25 lbs but definitely put on muscle and haven't been *that* great with my food. Working on that.

It is sorta expensive- depending on your area.. but it really is like personal training.

    I pay $95 a month for unlimited.. I go about 3-4x a week.

I have mixed emotions on crossfit. I have heard of many people getting injured because they are not using the right form and the instructors didn't correct it.

That's why it's crucial to find a good gym with good coaches... people can hurt themselves in all sorts of workouts. It's also personal responsibility- I know not to put 200 lbs of weight on my bar and be an idiot cuz I could get hurt. 95% of good crossfit gyms watch you and review the moves over and over so you have the form down.

I like CF alot...have definitely built up muscle tone and strength since joining in August. I go 2-3x/wk.

What I've liked most about it is that it's a slow build-up and you are compelled to push yourself (within reason) because of the competitive nature of the class. You couldn't have told me three months ago that I'd be able to overheard press 105 lbs...wouldn't have believed you, but CF has made me a believer!

So if I want most importantly to lose weight overall, and secondly to tone my arms and back, would this be a good option?

In regards to losing weight, at least for me, I actually gained, but it's been muscle, so I'm not worried, but on my non-CF days, I run with my run group usually between 3-6 miles.

Now toning of the arms you'll definitely get at CF, but it also depends on your metabolism and as I'm sure you know, your diet...ugh, yes the dreaded word!

Have you tried Zumba or some other type of Group X high intensity class?

I have done Zumba and I like it, and there's a sort of aerobics class at my gym that is ok. I go intermittently, but def not regularly. I was hoping to find something where there would be more accountability, which is why I thought of crossfit.

Controlling your diet is key and light weight training and a consistent ab workout will take care of tightening up your core. Walking daily and the weight training are a great and safe way to lose weight and tone up as well. I suggest 5,8, and 10 lb weights, with high reps to build tone. Tone up and still look feminine if that is your goal. Most of my clients do not want too look like guys, they just want firm and smooth.

I love crossfit but like others have said it is impotent to find a good gym. I go 5 days a week and pay $160 a month for unlimited. I have lost about 15lbs since i started 8 months ago but have also toned a lot of my body. I would totally recommend it but say work your way into it.
