Anyone Doing a Cigar Bar?

We're having an adult-only reception and have opted to not do wedding favors. The venue we love the most has a beautiful outdoor patio and in conversation between me, my mom, dad & FH a Cigar Bar was brought up. My dad went BONKERS over this idea and the more and more it was discussed my mom & FH both loved the idea. Since we're only having 60 guests... a cigar roller is out of the question (bummer because that would be cool) so instead we'd have a Cigar Bar. (an array of different cigars)

Is anyone else doing this?

Haha Andrene I actually thought of you when we were discussing this! We'll see if it actually happens... if the boys get their way with this neat idea I think the ladies should get something just as cool for our martinis = ice luge! ;o)

What a great idea this is! We are only having 60 people too, but a heck of a lot are cigar afficionadoes. However, , they will bring their own and sit on the deck, which we are making lounge like with the comfy furniture from the keeping room. Mental note: Buy big glass ashtrays.

We did one...huge hit! I of course can't figure out how to attach a photo from my iPad, but our photographer captured some amazing moments at the cigar lounge area!

I think it would be awesome, I love cigars, but speaking from experience - cigar smokers tend to go outside and stay there for over an hour (regular smokers are rarely gone for more than a few minutes). I'd worry about there being two parties - one inside and one outside.

My reception is going to be outside and i can promise you the cigars will be going but I couldn't afford a cigar bar.

That was my main thought Shannon- it would be a huge distraction from the actual reception. The men would be outside smoking cigars, and the women inside upset they can't dance with their husbands... It would be like two different events instead of one reception.

YES! i have it on the plans, its going to be a cigar/whiskey bar/table, so the plan is different types of cigars and the accessories set up plus a bar set up with a bottle of Johnny Walker blue, but we are having a small wedding, les than 75 guests, this is mainly for the guys and our venue allows it.

Never went to a wedding with a cigar bar, but one of the after parties for my cousin's wedding was at the hotel's cigar bar. It was a HUGE hit! I don't remember much because I discovered cosmos the same night though... (PS... cosmos + cigar bar+ Gino's cheesesteak = disaster!)

We were originally going to pass on the cigars as my grandfather, who used to love his cigars, had COPD and any smoke at all would send him into coughing fits and he'd need to take an athsma inhaler, pretty much ruining his evening. I was willing to make the regular smokers walk to the edge of the property to smoke to insure my grandfather's comfort, so I definetly understand where everyone with smoke sensitivity is coming from. Unfortunately my grandfather passed this last winter and his smoke sensitivity is no longer an issue. I assure all of you I'd prefer it was an issue.

Kimi, my FH and his friends are enthusiasts but by no means experts, I plan to go to the store and get recommendations from the cigar shop owner. I think I'll have to do a lot more research on the cigar smoking process as FH and his friends have never used a humidor. I'm planning on making a little smoking lounge outside so that it's well ventilated.

Meghan great point on the time that the cigars take to smoke. We have our venue for 3 days so maybe I will time it for the end of the night when the dancing is starting to wind down, dj goes home and we switch to house speakers. We have a venue that has several different rooms to relax in and I anticipate people starting to spread out by the end of the evening. But if you are at a venue for only 5 hrs maybe cigars would be best left for the rehearsal dinner.

Although we didn't have it (we had an inside wedding and i didn't want all the guys outside smoking), I have been to weddings/parties where they had a cigar bar/roller and it was AWESOME! Everyone enjoyed it!

    Kim,

Go to Occasionalcigar.com and they have the humidor and the cigars with your names on it. They are really awesome.

Let me know what you think.

G K That is SO neat!!!! My dad has a few humidor's that we were looking at last night - we'll probably end up using one of his & make our own little design to place inside the top so when it's open for the display it'll have our design. I love the idea of cusomized cigar bands!! Thank you so much for the website!!!

Kimi we had a mini cigar bar at our reception. The venue has a verandha that wraps around outside. It wasn't anything huge. Just a humidor and a few cigars, but DS and I love cigars so we had a great time!..

We're getting married in the Dominican and the resort offers a cigar roller - I want to do it SO bad, but my FH keeps saying "...smoking's not cool any more" LOL. Needless to say, he isn't into it. I'm still working on convincing him Smiley winking

I think it would make for really great photo's AND not everyone will actually smoke them right then and there - some might take them home as a favor.
