They are kind of pricey by the time you buy the camera, enough film, a book to put them in...however I love the idea! We were going to do this until I added it up and couldn't justify the cost when we had other more important things to pay for. I have seen them done and they are super cute! Also--if you already have the camera, the costs are much less....I didn't though
ETA: Katherine below makes a good point...we also heard that. but I'm not sure if the quality of newer polaroids is different than the old school ones..You'd think they had figured that out by now, but who knows..
I already have a Instax mini and we were originally going to do this but now that we are four months out my ambition to do so is all but gone. I will however be bringing it to my bridal shower to get pictures!
I own that camera. The film is a little expensive and so is the camera. If you can buy them used you may be able to get a good deal. Groupon usually has a good deal on the film.
We did it! Camera was like $60 I believe and film 20 sheets for $12 each. I believe we bought 5 or 6 sets of 20 so $120-130ish in total. We had 90 guests and had a good amount leftover since most people took group photos. I thought it worked out really well. We bought a guestbook from Etsy and then had the camera and a cute basket filled with instructions we typed out for the camera, pens, and gold tape.
I looked into photo booths and they were like 600$+ so this made more sense for us.
I did! It was a bit more expensive than I REALLY realized, but I do LOVE the photos that came out of it!! Thankfully my sister and MC helped (without my asking them to) by helping people work the camera or take pics for people that were struggling. Then my sister noticed there was still a bunch of film after dinner, so she ran around taking random pictures with the camera all night. Looking at the photos after was one of my favourite things. I`m turning the pictures into a collage and hanging it on the wall rather than putting the photos in a book I`ll never look at though (and I plan on scanning them all into my computer first so I have them even when they fade)
We are doing this - I already have an Instax wide camera (a bit larger than the mini). We got film from B&H photo online (less than $100). One of my friends had this at her wedding and it went over really well. Good alternative to a photo booth if they are expensive in your area (as they are in mine!)
Yes, I am doing this. It is more expensive than you think, so I am just keeping it to one camera. Total price ~$250 with camera, film and book. I think it's a cute idea and I'm much more likely to look at this than just people's signatures.
#TeamPoloroidGuestBook I have done this for my engagement dinner and wedding reception. This also doubles as favors, as most of our guests took 2 photos, one for the guest book and one to keep. First of all I have been obsessed with Instax Mini for the past few years, so camera and film was something I already own. I did decide to buy an extra camera as back up and I ended up gifting it to my sister and her bf for taking the photos. Groupon on is good for discounts, but I honestly think amazon has cheaper prices more regularly. To save money you must buy in bulk, lots of 100 sheets (5 boxes of 10x2) or 120 sheets (6 boxes of 10x2). Some boxes are only 10 sheets and some are 20 (10x2), so be careful when ordering.
@PumpedUpKicks "I plan on scanning them all into my computer first so I have them even when they fade" Thank you! I need to do this, like yesterday.
Here are a few photos from how our guestbook turned out. I purchased my handmade guestbook on amazon from Liumy. https://www.amazon.com/handmade/Liumy?ref=hnd_dp_smp
I was thinking about doing this, just didn't have the time. Instead, and it's not the same, our guest book will be filled with pages for notes and then we have insert pages for pictures. We figure we can print some 4x6 from our photographer photos and insert them in. It'll be a dual guestbook and photo album which means we'd be more Likely to look at it again.
We are doing one. I purchased mini envelopes in our colors that guests can slip the photo in along with a note and then am having a pretty glass box for them to drop the envelopes in.
We did. We already had a camera and our bridesmaid had 2 more she let us borrow. We bought all the film during sales like black friday. It was a huge hit and I definitely recommend getting more film than you think you need. We had quite a few people running around wanting to take pics and we now see them in everyones homes.
We are doing this as well! My sister and I both already had cameras, I just had to buy the film and the book. I'm actually having two of my friends be "guest book attendants" and they are going to be in charge of taking everyones photos. That way we will definitely have pics of just about everyone! I figured that some people will skip it all together (like my grandparents would), but this will ensure that more people do it.
We did it and it was a huge hit! I think people liked it so much because it really brought them back, it's nostalgic but also interactive and fun. Quite a few guests came up to us at the reception or told us after the wedding how cool and fun they thought the Instax Mini guestbook was. I didn't mind spending the money on it because I wanted one of those cameras anyway and this gave me a good excuse to get one!
I would suggest getting some extra film because people will want to take photos home with them, too. We had many guests who did that and I later visited them and they had those photos displayed in their homes, so it really made me feel like I made the right decision for our guestbook and reaffirmed how much the guests loved it. I mean, they put them up in prominent areas so they are looking at those photos everyday and remembering how much fun they had at our wedding, so it was a huge compliment to us!
One last piece of advice is if you do this, I would recommend having someone in charge of directing guests to your guestbook and even explaining the concept to them. Even though we had a sign, not everyone was aware that we had a guestbook and some people who signed it did not really understand the concept of taking and pasting in a photo, so I think it would have been better if we had a designated person to let guests know where it was!
For ours, we ordered a regular but pretty personalized guestbook from Etsy. We got double sided tape which we put on the table with the extra film. Since not all the pages were filled, we have put other paper goods from the wedding in the empty pages--basically anything personalized or sentimental like our cocktail napkins, favor stickers, program, invitation, etc.
