Anyone doing an after party at hotel?

About to be Mrs. Nic, on August 1, 2014 at 2:19 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 23

We have a hotel block and there are about 20 rooms booked. We are planning on doing an after party at the hotel after the reception, since we can only be at reception venue til 11. We have a bus shuttling people back to hotel. We are planning on getting some pizza, chips, cookies, and booze. There's a breakfast alcove area off the lobby that the hotel said we could use, and I'm bringing Bose speakers and making a playlist on my iPod. Does this sound lame? Would you go? Any suggestions on ways to make it better? FYI The hotel suite isn't big enough to accommodate 30+ people, there's no conference room, and bars close at midnight.

I'd totally go. I'm not sure what we'll be doing just yet.

I would probably go, but I would consider people taking a half hour to get to your after party. Even if its only 10 minutes to the hotel from the reception people may want to go to their room or change, hit up a drive through or something else so there may only be a half hour or so of "party time" in the breakfast alcove. Thats not enough time to stress about finding something to do..

(we wont being doing an after party at the actual hotel, but there is a bar next door to it that I can see several people walking to after the reception when the shuttle drops us off.)

We did something like this at our hotel. People brought stuff, we didn't supply it. Ours was in the lobby/breakfast area and we had it all to ourselves. We had late night pizza at the reception so I don't think people were hungry but someone brought liquor and beer and stuff.

I was so exhausted and didn't want to go out there but people kept saying I had to so I sucked it up and went. I'm glad I did but not glad that I stayed up until 4am listening to my MOH tell everyone how she thought we should make babies right away lol.

Some pics of the gang hanging out and me with my cousin and his wife Smiley smile Sorry, I love sharing pics lol

Only if I were staying at the hotel or were very close to the person getting married (not just a relative). But I'm tired 100% of the day (no joke) so I would be happy to just make it to midnight to finish out our reception!

@csquid that looks like it was fun!

Yeah I don't anticipate anyone not staying at the hotel to come. It's just an informal thing, but I wanted to make sure people were having fun so I wanted to provide some snacks & drinks. I know I won't want the party to end, so it's mostly selfish!

It's funny because I hadn't really put that much thought into what would happen after the wedding lol. I thought maybe we'd all walk to a nearby bar, there are many, but it turned out everyone congregated right in the lobby of the hotel. I'm glad b/c as I said I was exhausted and would not have wanted to go to a bar but the lobby was just the right low-key level. I think because a lot of people came in the day before, most of them had brought their own liquor/beer/wine and snacks so everyone just shared what they brought.

@csquid a wedding that lasts until 4 AM is one hell of a wedding! Sounds awesome! Smiley smile

I'm having an after party at my parents' house - they have a good-sized backyard and will provide more dessert and drinks. Since my wedding ends at 10 PM, I can't imagine wrapping up the party so early.

We HAD to start out wedding at 4 due to our venue so the reception ends at 9:30. There is a cute bar in the hotel that we are going to invite everyone back to after the reception ends because I know a lot of us will want to keep the party going Smiley smile

We're inviting people to come back to the hotel after the wedding, but we're not paying for it. We're just hanging out in the lobby/bar area and everyone is free to order drinks from the bar or food from the kitchen. We figured since a lot of us will be staying at the hotel it would be nice to hang out together after the wedding.

We are. Next to our hotel bar there's a room reserved for us where we can all hang out. Our hotel offers after party food, so we're going to get some pizzas for everyone. Anyone drinking can buy their own booze at the bar. So far we have 23 people staying over that have reserved rooms and our invites haven't gone out yet. It'll probably be a large, rowdy gathering.

We're doing the same thing! The hotel is allowing us to use a small conference room. We're going to order pizza and provide beer. I don't think you need to change a thing Smiley smile

There is a bar inside the lodge were we are having our reception. I would love to do a little after party there since there isn't much else around close to travel to for an after party. I am thinking that I will give anyone who wants to come a "ticket" that they can use to buy whatever drink they want from the bar and put it on our tab, as a little thank you from FH and I. Anything after the first drink or food, I figure people can cover themselves.

We're going out to a bar, but I was looking into hotel after parties but around our venue wasn't any decent options.

We had an after party. There is an outdoor bar that connects our venue to the hotel where most of our guests and wedding party stayed. We ordered a lot of appetizers in advance to be out when we got there and then people paid for their own drinks. A lot of people at least stopped by and it was a fun time!

We are doing an after party at the lounge at a hotel near our venue, especially since our wedding will be over by 10pm (Sunday wedding over a holiday weekend). They have some awesome seating and I am working with them to corner off some space for us. Not sure how many people I expect to show up but yeah, I would totally come to yours =)

We did! We actually arranged with out hotel to keep their bar open for our guests...but the bartender went home anyway. So everyone hauled their booze out of their rooms and we hung out on their patio. Some people made it til 4/5 but I only lasted til 12ish I think. But it was great!

Our reception is at a boutique hotel (well, at the restaurant at the hotel) and it turns into a nightclub at 11:00 so our wedding has to end by 10:30. We are definitely planning on continuing the party there afterwards- our venue has given us a separate area for our guests and we might even start a (small) tab for our guests to keep celebrating!

We're doing an after party at a brewery/bar that is within walking distance to the three hotels that most of our guests are staying at. Reception ends at 11:00 and the bar stays open until 1:00.
