Anyone else get really stressed out right before engagement photos?

AlmostMrsSmith, on October 26, 2017 at 11:20 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16

I'm generally pretty type B/relaxed about wedding stuff. On Saturday we leave to go take wedding photos in Grass Valley. I had a crazy stressful week, (family health scare) and I come home to find that I hate all the clothes I ordered or planned to wear for the shoot. It's also so much warmer than I thought so I planned on jackets and boots and that's not going to work anymore. On top of that I suddenly have an eczema flare up on my legs from the stress and allergies of being away on family business. My FH is amazing and supportive but his work schedule will not let us reschedule this shoot any time soon.

Does anyone have advice on rising to the occasion and making it work for photos? On looking pretty in photos when you don't feel confident?

We got our E-pics done last month, I Love and hate them. I feel like I look fat. Smiley sad FH loves them and tells me I'm beautiful.

I wore ripped jean capris, and a red flannel shirt, with red converse.

Wear clothes you're comfortable in. Something that makes you feel beautiful and confident. Smiley smile

We're doing ours on Saturday, and I haven't given them much thought, so I hope they come out ok. Really FH was more set on having them.

As for advice, just relax. Don't think about having a "photoshoot" just think of having fun with your future husband! My goal is to have really natural pictures where we look comfortable, and like we're having fun! You can also ask your photographer for advice of things to do so you don't look stiff, or uncomfortable!

I'm sure it will go great!

I got really stressed before our engagement photos. The day of I hated my outfit, hated my makeup, and felt like a fat cow. I wore jeans and a long sleeve top (it was supposed to be chilly, ended up being 95 degrees) and I was hot and sweaty. DH hated his hair and thought you could see his nipples through his t-shirt (haha).

Long story short, we felt terrible and disgusting but ended up LOVING our pictures. Once you're in the moment, all the stress melts away!

ETA- You should definitely wear something that you'll feel comfortable in. If it's gonna be hot, slightly modify your outfit, but I also wouldn't wear a dress if you're gonna feel insecure about your eczema. If you're comfortable and confident, you'll have way more fun and your pictures will reflect that.

You could just slightly modify your outfits! Keep the boots and just wear a lighter layer for your top! Maybe a light flannel or cute cardigan and scarf? As long as you feel comfortable in your outfits that will shine through in your pictures! I bet they will be gorgeous!

I was so nervous the days leading up, part of me wanted to cancel! These few things helped my confidence: I had my MUA (for the wedding) come over and do my makeup. Two friends came over to help me decide on outfits and do my hair. My one friend painted my nails (I didn't even think about that), and she painted a sign that we used for the engagement shoot right before we headed out the door. They definitely eased my anxiety. I also practiced my smile in the mirror - silly, but it helped me. I should have had a glass of wine before the shoot.

I had no idea what to wear; didn't see anything in stores that fit well. I tried ordering a dress that didn't show up in time - it was sheer anyway so I don't think it would have been appropriate! The night before I went to Rue 21 and got a dress on clearance as a last resort. It ended up being 70 degrees outside, and the dress worked. I had all these outfits picked out - but didn't use them. I stayed in the dress because of the weather; then changed into a sweater, pants and boots because it was chilly at night, and I wanted a brighter color to wear at night. Once we started shooting, and FH was whispering hysterically things in my ear, I relaxed.

Definitely wear something comfortable! I was anxious beforehand bc I've never had pictures like that done before and I was so nervous and giggly at the beginning lol. But as we went on I got much more comfortable. Our photographer was great at talking us through what to do and how to pose. Our sneak peek turned out amazing!

I was super stressed and nervous. I hated my dress and felt fat, I had my hair and makeup done and HATED both. I tried to look happy and confident regardless. I haven't seen them yet and I'm a little scared. lol. If you can get ready early and go out for a quick drink with FH I highly recommend it, a glass of wine made all the difference for me.

FH and I were both nervous to take the pictures. I wasn't really looking forward to actually taking the photos, I just wanted the end product lol. Definitely make sure you are comfortable in what you are wearing. Your photographer should know how to make couples feel comfortable during engagement sessions, and they will put you in poses that look flattering. Good luck!

It poured rain during ours and I was freaking out watching the forecast all week and was so stressed finding clothes! but ours still turned out amazing, yet I'm happy they're over. I think it's hard to pick what to wear and to know the weather

We had no interest in having professional photos done, with all the accompanying stress, outfit changes, etc. Hubby's aunt took a couple dozen shots, with her camera, and we chose one photo for our save the dates. Easy and easy.

We just had ours done after work this Wednesday. I do not liked to be photographed, and I had planned on wearing jeans and a gray cardigan, my usual. Our photographer asked if I would consider wearing a red dress. Yikes! I bought a cheap one online, and hated it on me. But our photog was reassuring, and did a great job I felt much better afterwards. Glad I went with her suggestions. Good luck to you, and congratulations!

Here's one she sent me so far.

Dreamer actually my photographer is my uncle! This is a trial to see if it's really a good fit to have him photograph the wedding. I actually feel really good about that part. We are meeting for margaritas first thing lol! I also have no idea where we are taking photos- but Grass Valley, CA is beautiful everywhere!

I'm going to do one last mission tonight to H&M and hope that inspiration finds me! I've never felt more like I have nothing to wear!

I had a similar situation where the weather screwed up my planned outfit. I was nervous for other reasons too so we went to a local bar and had a drink before the session. That really helped ease my nerves. And once we started, it was so fun!
