Anyone else get weird/rude responses to their honeymoon plans?

Whenever anyone finds out I'm engaged they inevitably ask about our honeymoon plans. Frankly I feel lucky that we even can go on a honeymoon but it's going to require a lot of scrimping after especially since I do not get PTO. We're going to Asheville, NC and I'm really excited! So many people have told me I'd love it there. But people seem to expect me to leave the country, or at least go to Hawaii or something. I'm in FL and have had plenty of beach days already. I've had two people flat out ask me why I'd want to go somewhere so boring on a honeymoon or that I might as well have waited so we could save for something "better". I'm sure I'm not the only one who has dealt with this so feel free to vent here. It's very 1st world problem I MO but people are just so rude and then their stupid comments get in my head.

Pshh we're not going anywhere tropical or anything like that. We're going to Oregon to ride the dunes.

You do what you wanna do for your honeymoon. Ignore the negative people.

Everyone romanticizes travel abroad. Yes, we live in a big beautiful world full of wonders. But you know what? Plenty of those wonders are here on this continent! I think we underestimate what our country has to offer for vacation spots. Glamorous cities, mountains, coasts, forests, friendly mid-western towns, deserts. There's so much to see!

I've lived in Europe and travelled quite a bit around Europe, as well as a little in Africa. I'm fortunate to have had those opportunities. I bring that up not to brag-- just to clarify that I'm not trying to say America is the best place in the world and there's no reason to go anywhere else. I'm just saying there is plenty here to keep a wanderlusting traveler very happy Smiley smile

I was just in Asheville this summer. It is absolutely gorgeous and you're going to have a great time!!

I recommend Salvage Station. It's a bar/brewery in the river arts district and it's so pretty down there. Also Curate is the hottest restaurant there right now and the tapas are PHENOMENAL. You should try to get a reservation! Also, the Biltmore is super expensive but 100% worth it.

We're going to Niagara Falls, and people can't believe we're not going to the beach. Whatever. It's our honeymoon, not theirs.

OP if you or your fiancé like craft beer, you'll be in heaven in Asheville! So many breweries to check out. Also definitely recommend the Biltmore, it is gorgeous and the history behind it is very interesting.

We live two hours away in Charlotte and I love Asheville because it's SO different. Very quirky which is typically not my thing, but for some reason I love it in Asheville. You'll have a blast!

I love love love Asheville. We live about an hour and a half away so we try to visit pretty often! If you are into outdoorsy things, check out Max Patch. It's about an hour drive away but so worth it. We did our engagement pics there and it is just gorgeous.

Asheville is gorgeous! So much to do.. as PP have mentioned, it's practically the beer capital of the state. There's actually an app for a self guided tour of all the breweries. I second Biltmore as well!

I got a lot of side-eye for not going on a honeymoon right after the wedding. I returned to work the Wednesday after my Sunday wedding, which also got a lot of questions. Basically, I said that we cannot afford a honeymoon right now.

We have decided we would like to go to Iceland for our honeymoon and people are always giving me weird looks when I tell them. Everyone asks why we wouldn't want to go on a cruise or somewhere tropical. My fiancé doesn't like the beach and we have always been somewhat different so I think Iceland is perfect for us!

We're going to Atlanta, GA for ours Smiley smile If they say stuff like it's boring you can say "Well are you going to pay for my airfare out of country? No? Then hush."

@MelissaErin - AZ is stunning! Don't let anyone tell you different! I moved to AZ from a coastal town in California in 2010 and couldn't even imagine living anywhere else! Sedona is especially gorgeous with the red rocks, and has so many exciting adventures to enjoy! You and FH are going to love it!

We're going on a cruise to the Bahamas. I went on the exact same cruise- ship, itinerary, etc.- 3 years ago. It's an older ship and only a 4 night cruise. Everyone's asking why I would want to go somewhere I've already been, for such a short time. Um, because I liked it? And FH wants to go and we're spending the rest of the week in Miami after. Tell them to mind their beeswax. I'm sure Hawaii is beautiful but it is not the only honeymoon destination out there

We can't afford the Dream sandals vacation I wanted in the beginning, but since deciding on a honeymoon to NYC I've fallen more and more in love with the plan. My mom keeps suggesting I check groupon getaways and I keep telling her I'm happy with NYC. It's frustrating, but it's whatever.

People are so dumb. Don't listen to them or let them rain on your parade. Remember, there are people in this country that want to vote for Trump, so people have no idea what the hell reality is like.

I originally wanted to do santorini for my honeymoon but since Greece is so bad right now we decided on Jamaica. One of my best friends who is a travel editor, I love him to death but he is kinda shitting on the Jamaica idea saying Greece is nicer. It's kinda crappy Smiley sad I've never left the US so I'm super excited to go anywhere!
