Anyone else growing or diy(ing) fresh wedding flowers? 1
I know this is season specific. Mostly a possibility for summer and fall brides. Is it something you're considering? I can't believe I found a bridal mix of dahlias! It has great reviews and I'm super excited about my dinner plate dahlia bouquet wrapped in ribbon! Anyone else diy-ing fresh flowers? What is your alls plans? I was going to buy fresh flowers direct online or possibly locally but dahlias apparently don't ship well and I'm in love with them. My son and I have been gardening for 3 years together and I've been gardening for over 13 years alone so I'm pretty confident. Although this is a new species for me.

That sounds like a fun activity for you and your son to do together… and it would make your bouquet even more special! I don’t have a green thumb at all. So I couldn’t even consider the idea. Lol!

I wouldn't normally pick a super temperamental difficult flower. Especially for something so important, but the reviews make them sound very easy and hardy so I'm excited! Our strawberry patch is 3 years old and so big! We got some red berries before the squirrels took them this year so he got to eat our first ripe berries finally! He was so happy. It does make it more special too. Anyone else growing or diy(ing) fresh wedding flowers? 2

That seems like a great idea! I would maybe create a plan b just in case (maybe grow a different kind of flower you have experience with or price out some flowers to purchase in the event things go wrong). I don't have a green thumb, but I know several people who garden and complain about deer and other animals eating/destroying all of their flowers.

That would be horrible! Lol we are in the suburbs. Not too many wooded areas that I've seen. It's still possible I suppose. But yea, this is a 40 dollar experiment. If it doesn't work out I will just visit a local florist for daily blooms. If I don't mention the word wedding it shouldn't cost too much for my plan B!

I think most people are fearful unless they truly have experience with growing flowers. We don’t have a bridal party, so I’m the only bouquet that needs to be purchased. I have zero trust in my flower growing abilities. 😆

Makes sense. I wasn't initially diy-ing that way. Originally I was buying fresh online or locally day of and arranging myself to avoid the mark ups. I'd rather save for an awesome honeymoon! We are just having a really small wedding of 30 people and us and our son so it's very cozy and simple. I know that's also not the usual and for a bigger event type wedding you probably wouldn't want to be responsible for it on your big day. I'm probably in the minority for many things wedding lol. We're all making our dream days happen and that's all that matters! Congrats ladies! 👏

Oh, I'm in the suburbs of NJ, and there are deer everywhere. My mom has given up on planting anything.

Oh that's so sad! No chicken wire or herbs or seasonings will keep them away?

My husband's uncle had a pretty elaborate set-up to keep deer away. My mom was just trying to plant flowers in the front of the house to look pretty. But yeah, I think certain things can be done as deterrents but it's still a major problem, at least around here. That's why I would just have a plan b since you never know if dahlias end up being the local wildlife's new favorite snack.

Very true! I'm pretty determined lol and thankfully (unlike when I was a teen and the internet was still fairly young) there's a wealth of tips and tricks. That's how I kept my strawberries this year. Google said cayenne pepper. It worked! but I do have a plan b. I'm pretty resourceful lol

If I had a green thumb I would consider it, I have a pretty decent backyard thats fenced so I'm not worried about animals getting at my plants. I was mostly considering the Sola wood flowers since they're a cheaper option and I still get to customize and build the arrangements myself

I looked at those wood flowers. They look decent from far away in photos but the close up photos show a woody texture. But you have to be like REALLY close to see it. It's unique and they are not ugly. But for me nothing can beat the beauty and scent of a fresh flower. Unfortunately, I don't have hundreds or thousands to spend on flowers so I'm getting creative. Those Sola flowers seem kinda high priced for the wedding bouquet, but you would get to repurpose, keep it forever and use it as decor later so that makes it worth it. Whatever you do I'm sure your flowers will look gorgeous!
