Anyone else have this feeling after marriage?

Ally, on December 23, 2014 at 11:33 PM Posted in Married Life 0 25

So....I know that I'm not ready to have a kid yet...I need to get a better job and we want to get a house. I didn't have baby fever the whole time we were engaged....wanted to have at least a year to just do what I wanna do after the wedding

But it's weird bc lately I feel like now after getting that that's just the next step and I'm starting to feel like I'm getting that fever everyone talks about! I think part of the problem is that my husband and I have already been together six years and we have had so much time to ourselves. the holidays is probably playing a big part too. I don't think by any means that kids are for everyone but does anyone else that thought they wanted to wait to have kids have the fever right after getting married?? It just happened so suddenly for me!

Mine comes and goes constantly, but after getting our fur baby, I realized me & DH are not ready to fully take care of a kid. Our little corgi takes up all of our time now that we aren't working yet. Yeah babies are cute and adorable and I really can't wait to see what a little me and little DH looks like, but then I think of the full life-long commitment and it scares me at my age. I am the oldest of 6 kids so I have a mothering ability instilled in me and a lot of experience, but it's still not something either one of us are racing to do at this time. We said we would wait 7 years but to most people that seems like a really long time and nothing is set in stone. Of course if I ended up being pregnant tomorrow I would be happy and do everything I could to give that baby everything he/she deserves and a lifetime of love. I think as long as you and your DH are on the same page you don't really have anything to worry about. These urges to have a baby right after marriage are completely natural.

Thanks Natassia! I guess it's just that I've never really actually been at the point in my life where I've actually been able to think about having a kid in the next couple of years...it's like it's just now hitting me and it's weird! I totally agree with you though! As long as we are on the same page....we definitely can't have one right now but man it's only been a couple of months since we got married and I'm like wow! I can't wait to bring a baby in this world with my husband! It just kinda hit me lately! Never truly had baby fever before so it's weird to see what everyone is talking about! But like I said....I NEVER do anything that I'm not supposed to haha so I would not try to have a baby right now without being in the position to have a baby Smiley smile. Thanks for commenting and listening to my craziness! Haha

I'm not sure if I have baby fever and I can relate to your concerns about home and money. My issue is that I will be 36 when we get married next year so I feel like I've already missed my time gap to have kids. I certainly don't feel 35 nor do I look it but I am and it concerns me. Hopefully we don't have any issues conceiving. I really wish that we had lots of time to enjoy married life before kids but I'm just at a weird age and we probably shouldn't wait. Hopefully I get the job promotion that I applied to. It means having to move before the wedding but we could afford a house and is be earning more. I hope it works out for us. Good luck with life. It creeps up on you and keeps you on your toes.

Oh Jacquelyn I feel you on that. Life never goes the way I think it will...it truly just flies by and before you know it things you thought would happen years ago did not. If I have learned anything it's that nothing ever goes according to my plan lol. You still have time though! I understand what you are saying for sure but try not to worry! It will happen when it's supposed to! I wish you the best for sure! Smiley smile

FH and I are stable, but of course, we would always like to be better off. We're realizing that we're never going to be as stable as we would like too, that's just not possible to be 100% stable. We can afford to have a family, but it does still scare me at times.

Before I got married the first time (I was 24), I went from not wanting a child till I was 30 to wanting one IMMEDIATELY. I followed this path, and well....you'll notice the part where I said first time. I think what happens is you get so much attention and have so much focus on this ONE THING while wedding planning that when it's over, you're looking for something else to focus all your attention on. And that happens with everyone whispering in your ear about children.

You've posted previously that you want to go in like 6 directions at once. You want to save for a house. You don't entirely have health insurance or something. You don't like your job. You want to do something else. Trust me on this, handle that stuff and then come back to thinking about a baby. Your life comes to a complete standstill for the first couple years after your child is born, so if you don't have enough money now, you certainly won't after a baby. If you don't like your job now, you're likely not going to land a new one after a baby until the baby is older. If you don't have a house now, you likely won't be able to afford one right after a baby.

Mine comes in spurts, leaves a while & then returns. I am 27, so my "clock" starts panicking sometimes... & then one day I don't usually even realize, it goes away. To squash it, we waited until a non fevered moment & made an actual plan, when my long term BC comes out in a few years we dont plan on putting anything in it's place. I like the Long term BC b/c it stops those crazy hormones from helping us to make an awful decision when we aren't ready.

Oh yeah I agree that you aren't ever really ready to have a baby....I'll probably still feel that way even when we are in a position to start trying for one. I definitely want a house though before we have a baby and a new job. Those are the two things that I need before we will start trying! I've put in a bunch of applications and there's a couple I'm REALLY hoping I hear back from! So I'm trying to head in the direction of getting things right first Smiley smile

I also like the long term birth control! I have nexplanon in my arm which I love bc I hate taking pills and it's like 99.9% at preventing pregnancy haha.

It's creeping up on me, but mostly due to FIL's health.

I know I want kids before I am 30 but I have never had baby fever. I do however have puppy fever. FH is well aware of this and is trying to break me of wanting another dog, but that is not going to happen. I don't think I will ever really say ok I am ready to have a baby. Pretty sure it will just happen and I will be ok with it when it does. I love kids but I am terrified of popping one out.

As of now, no baby fever. I don't think that will change after we are married but who knows. I'm actually having the opposite of baby fever right now. I see what my FSIL is going through right now with having a baby and it just seems like people don't treat her like a person anymore, they treat her like just a mother. She's pretty much expected to do everything for the baby and gets judged if she doesn't, but her husband doesn't get judged if he doesn't help out. I know that my FH will help me with a baby, but I don't want to be expected to give up everything I am for the baby.

Shelby, that is another biggy!! Even my husband said the other day that he would rather have kids sooner than later because of both of our dads health issues. Both of our dads have diabetes. My dad has definitely been a lot healthier lately but his dad doesn't really watch what he eats so it's scary! I feel for you girl. Hoping for the best for you!

FMS- Maybe you will have baby fever after your wedding too! Lol! I honestly had never had it before. Sure, I've always known that I wanted kids but I have never thought about it this much before! It's really weird how it hit me! I think wanting another dog instead is good though! I love my dogs...I would be ecstatic if I got another one! And that would probably break me of the baby fever! lol!

Genny, I know what you mean. It is weird because right after the wedding I was like...ugh...I don't know what people are talking about...I do not want a baby right now at all. I enjoy sleeping in and everything lol. But I guess with the holidays it's just kind of hit me. It is weird! Maybe it'll pass for me haha. That really does suck for your FSIL! I get the wanting to be viewed as more then just a mother for sure!

For me it's not so much baby fever, but the realization that I will be almost 32 when we get married. It's just time for me to get started, I feel. FH is really excited too, which helps with feeling ready. He talks about things we will do with our kids and envisions our future as a family all the time. So, we will start trying right after the wedding. I plan to go off the pill 6 months before the wedding to help prep.

Yep. Yep to all of this. My husband has 1.5 years until he's finished his degree and I want to go back too because even with a BA I haven't been able to get settled into a career. But my body says BABY NOW NOW NOW. lol

And it only gets worse when you have a house because I so want to dictate one of the rooms as the "nursery" and start decorating it OMG. I sound insane..

Oh I didn't even think of that. You don't sound insane because if I had a house I would be doing the exact same thing right now lol! Once I get a good full time job then I will feel much more comfortable going in that direction but right now on a cops salary and my part time crap jobs it aint happening Smiley sad.

I know that I need to enjoy this time with husband but I can tell he really wants it too...just not until we are more stable financially. Being with him for six years I know what a great dad he would be so it's like even more so making me want to! lol

Jennifer I think that is really super sweet! Hoping you get preggers right away Smiley winking!

No, actually I realized that I'm too selfish and I kind of hate children. I almost had baby fever during engagement but apparently that time has passed. Maybe it'll come back?

We also just got a puppy and even with ONLY having to get up once per night for her bathroom break plus at 6 AM, I realize I'm already grumpy about not getting enough sleep. Plus you can't lock a baby in a bathroom with a ball while you're at work. THe in-laws are going to be SO disappointed with me.
