Anyone else having a short engagement? 8 months or less?

C&S, on March 4, 2015 at 10:11 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 22

Why did you and FH decide to have a short engagement?

Are you happy with the decision or regretting it now? What do you think are the pros and cons to having a short engagement?

FH and I got engaged on Christmas and are getting married June 13th, so our engagement will be a little less than 6 months. Our dream venue had a few remaining 2015 dates for a huge discount, so we booked. I plan events for work (much bigger events, in much shorter time), so I was confident that I could pull it off. So far planning is going very well! I love it.

The only thing I don't like is how short of a time we get to be engaged. You only get to be engaged once, so I feel kind of sad to be rushing it.

EH...but if you had a long one you would probably dislike it too. We got engaged 2/20/14 and since FH wanted a Spring wedding and June of 2014 was too soon we had to wait till 2015. Granted, the wedding planning process has been no stress so far *knock on wood* but I'm ready for it to be all done and over.

We have just under an 8 month engagement. I wanted to get married this year , preferably before FH raced his full ironman triathlon - so we decided to get married before and honeymoon after the race. It's been wonderful and I've had a lot of success getting things planned because I don't have the time luxury of agonizing over every single detail.

Ours was on the shorter side, but not as short as yours. We got engaged on 12/21/14 and are getting married 10/24/15 so almost exactly 10 months. I couldn't imagine it any other way. I've always wanted a fall wedding and we've been together for so long that I didn't want to wait and have a 2 year engagement. I actually got all of my planning done pretty quick, so now we're just enjoying being engaged.

I would have loved around 9 month engagement. That's how far into it we are of a 14 mo engagement, and I'm ready. The only reason they get stretched out so far here is that venues, photographers, etc, book up more than a year in advance. So for brides getting engaged at Christmas, if you are picky about what you want, you're pretty much out for that year. Thats so wonderful that you got your dream venue in the same year.

We're doing 8 months. I just didn't see a need to stretch it out. Honestly, I could see how it could have all snow balled and got a lot more stressful if it would've been longer.

FH and i got engaged on christmas eve, we are getting married July 17, 2015 so about a 7 month engagement. We wanted to get married this year and the venue we wanted had a few open dates ( we wanted a Friday wedding) and my FH really wanted to get married on the 17th, no particular month. I am going to miss being engaged because it was only for a short time, BUT i cant wait to marry my FH Smiley smile

We'll be at 8 months almost to the day. We've been together so long and lived together so it doesn't make sense for us to prolong anything.

Ours 11 months. March was really the only time we could do it because of work/school. It has been ok but 18 months would have been better.

We had 8 months and 4 days. We wanted a fall wedding and had no reason to wait--we were ready to get married, and it was plenty long for us.

Our engagement was only 3 months. We wanted to do it before DH's busy season at work started. It was plenty of time to book great vendors, find and alter my dress and get everything else done. I'm glad everything unfolded the way it did. Our wedding day went off without a hitch and I the short engagement kept me focus and from getting bent out of shape over some small detail.

We were engaged on Christmas Eve and will be married on August 29, 2015. Just over the 8 month mark. We have been together for almost 10 years and I really didn't want to push it off another year. We are ready at this point to just be married and it is definitely long enough for us to plan...

We got engaged a few weeks ago and our wedding will be in November. So almost 9 months exactly. So far, planning as has been smooth. There have been plenty of vendors avaliable to choose from. We both really wanted to get married this year so it's working for us.

We got engaged in September and married in May. Financially we didn't need to save money and we wanted a May wedding. Easy peasy.

I really wanted a May/June wedding and didn't want to wait until 2016! So we're 6 months also (almost the same as you, we were engaged 12/18/14 and will be married 6/13/15!) I am so happy not to be dragging it out!

We got engaged at Thanksgiving and our wedding is coming up in May! It's been (mostly) a breeze. We just prioritized what was most important to us in case we ran out of time, but we've both pitched in to the planning process and we haven't been as picky as couples who have a long engagement period – time is not a luxury we have! We'd already been together for five years and wanted a small wedding, so we're totally happy with our decision to keep it a short engagement.

We were going to have a 3 month engagement, then my husband's dad died so I made the call to postpone another year.

in many ways it worked out better, but it also gave me 12 more months to drive myself crazy lol
