Anyone else not a fan of "rustic" weddings?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and tastes and everyone's wedding is beautiful no matter what they do, but I personally believe "rustic" weddings are entirely overdone at this point. I'm not a fan of the style-- I would never knock anyone that is, but its gotten to a point where I go to try to find decorations, signs, and little odds and ends for my wedding, and almost EVERYTHING is rustic.

Anyone else over seeing all things rustic or barn? Or am I alone in this? lol

I definitely see how the rustic theme is overplayed. Especially the wood Slavs & mason jars! Although our venue is a rustic barn, I feel it adds that perfect touch of glam. I would consider FH to be “country” whereas I consider myself “big city” even though we grew up in the same small town. The formal ball rooms or other venues in our area were just not him or us. I love our barn venue but am doing a more “glam” style with no mason jars, burlap, lace, etc

SO. We have a barn venue, but because my FW grew up on a farm that will eventually become ours, and it's very much our style. Not because it's cool on Pinterest. It's definitely not the typical run down barn venue and has beautiful chandeliers and other more formal decor, so it's about as elegant as a barn can be. The thought of burlap, sunflowers, or mason jars anywhere in my wedding makes me cringe. I've done everything I can to keep our wedding more vintage/rustic than trashy rustic and I'm PRAYING my vision comes together properly.

I’m so glad this discussion is on here! I. HATE. RUSTIC! Ughhhhh it’s just horrible, even if you can “pull it off”you’re not going to find me saying “oh what a beautiful wedding” unless I’m talking about the ceremony part😬

I completely get it. It does seem like every other wedding is rustic themed. Ours is, and I was a little reluctant at first about going that route, just because I honestly couldn't give a hoot about what is "in" or trendy. But, we are homesteaders that raise our own livestock, hunt, fish, grow crops, keep bees, tap and produce our own maple syrup and I do a lot of food preservation and canning. I also have a spinal cord injury and don't have full feeling from the chest down. I can walk the majority of the time, but my toes are frequent casualties and there has been multiple occasions where I've broken my toe nails off super low and never noticed until I happened to look down and see blood everywhere. So dress shoes are a nope for me, as they don't offer any protection. So my absolute first wedding purchase was my bridal cowboy boots. I wanted to still feel feminine and like a bride while not looking like I am going out to feed the chickens. So Everything developed around that and our venue is a 19th century barn on a vineyard that is disability friendly and down to earth like us. I've had a lot of negative reactions when people hear we are doing rustic and hey, to each their own.

I like the rustic look to a certain extent. As long as it's not over done I am ok with it.

I agree, only because it seems as though this is what EVERYONE does now. My wedding is going to more classic with an old hollywood/vintage feel to it, which means that I am having a very hard time tracking down any decor that is not a wooden stump or something similar. Oh well. Hopefully my wedding will stand out as something "different."

I also can't stand the rustic look and it's super popular around us. That being said, fiance and I did choose a "barn" venue. Well, it has "barn" in the name but it barely even looks like one! It has gorgeous chandeliers, huge windows and a fireplace inside and is surrounded by a forest of pine trees with string lighting. We're going for a more ethereal and forest wedding and our venue was the closest thing that we could get in our area.

I'm with you 100%!! I went to a friends wedding years ago it was rustic and beautiful but at this point I would love to see more variety in decorations and venue ideas. My wedding will be very formal and elegant.

I keep describing my wedding as "tastefully rustic" if that's even a thing Smiley xd No mason jars, no burlap, but lace, baby's breath, white roses, a few wooden accents, and held at my parents house with a barn in the background because that's where I grew up Smiley smile We are having a local BBQ restaurant cater, because we LOVE their food and I didn't want anything super duper fancy anyway Smiley smile I had to put my foot down a few times because people keep asking if I'm having mason jars though lol that one I'm over

I think rustic is great, as long as it is who you are and it is authentic, though I hate how overdone it is. Especially because it is typically girls who have never worked on a farm or want to get their nails dirty, but wear cowboy boots, so they think they’re rustic.

That being said, I am incorporating some rustic elements. We are getting married at a barn (ceremony is outside though) and there are some more rustic decorations that I naturally lean towards. The barn though, is a nod to my profession with horses and my FH works outdoors and we are both nature lovers.

I am not a fan of the burlap, mason jars or using hay bales.

I get having natural colors and textures, but I despise the rustic trend. I told a friend that our centerpieces will incorporate birch rounds and she said, "oh rustic, love it!"

    Uhhh…. no.

And has anyone ever noticed that about 75% of the girls that have rustic weddings have never stepped foot in a barn?

Exactly. I’m planning on a lot of natural touches, but whenever I have been asked my theme, it is definitely not rustic (I don’t even have one, lol).

Preach ladies! I loathe this trend. Whatever happened to bridal elegance?
