Anyone else not have a full "bells-and-whistles proposal?!"

Did anyone else not have a bells and whistles proposal?! I mean no pics no getting down on one knee..etc. My fiance and I got engaged by having a mutual discussion about marriage. About a year in we both knew we wanted to take the next step with each other, but we continued on a little longer. About 4 months ago is when we got engaged. Now, my fiance is not a bells and whistles guy nor is he super romantic. I knew this going into the relationship with him and was okay with that; one of my favorite things about us is that we never try to change things about each other that don't have a true impact on our relationships--ie, my fiances non-romance lol. He shows me romance in so many unique ways I would've never thought of. Knowingly, he knows I HATE surprises. I am very type A and need to be included in everything so i can plan LOL. Moreover, in regard to marriage, I feel like so much pressure is put on the guy and it never really made sense to me. So we basically just had a discussion on our 2 year anniversary that we were ready, and a month later we just sealed it with a ring! I very much wanted it to feel like a mutual decision rather than him making the big move. Neither of us regrets not having an extravagant proposal and it's been 4 months! Would love to hear your guy's stories!

I love the fact that so many others had casual proposals or mutual decisions to get married!

My FH and I had talked about our relationship and the future progression we both wanted last December. While we were on a trip with friends I actually popped the question to him (not planned). We were in our room of the cabin laying in bed while everyone else was outside in the hot tub. It basically went: Me: (blurting out) Marry Me!? Him: Are you asking me to marry you? Me: Yes! Him: Heck yeah!! And that was the extent of our proposal. We’re not very traditional and all our family and friends loved the fact that I proposed to him. I have a really hard time keeping things in or to myself when I strongly feel something and the whole relationship has been me blurting out how I feel about him.

    No bells and whistles here.

About two weeks into dating, my husband asked me if I would marry him after I turned 18. We were just kids then (16 and 14), and he has always maintained that he knew he wanted to marry me before we ever even dated, and this wasn't just him being a dumb kid saying dumb stuff. But at the time, I laughed and just told him to ask me again after I graduated.

So he did. Just like that. "You told me to ask you again after you graduated. So will you marry me?" No ring, no getting down on one knee, no pictures, no dinner, nothing.

We were watching a movie with a tearful one-knee proposal scene the other night, and I said jokingly, "I never got anything like that." He replied, "because we already knew." But honestly, I can't imagine any other way. My husband is romantic in his own very subtle way, and even picturing him getting on one knee with some moving speech makes me feel kind of weird, actually. It just doesn't fit the man I said "yes" to.

Our proposal wasn't fancy but it was sweet. We were on vacation driving from DE to TN. We had arrived at the vacation spot and was relaxing laying in bed. The Fiancé asked for a favor and when I turned to look at him he was holding the ring box. I felt like I was smiling ear to ear, while looking at him like he was crazy. After asking a dozen questions, making sure he wanted to get married...I said yes.

We didn't have the big thing. My fiance is the most simple person ever and so am I. Although it was on the deck in our backyard he did put a little bit of effort in cooking a meal, putting up some patio lights and a fire pit. I knew it was coming since we already had a venue booked and we knew we were getting married but the fact that he put all that together was perfect enough. Nothing fancy just a simple nice evening.

My guy and I definitely had discussions about it before he proposed. He did not get down on one knee and I was the one who chose the design for my ring and ordered it and we split the cost 50/50. However, we did have a lovely dinner beforehand and he asked me just as the evening lights were coming on up at Inspiration Point park before it wen under reconstruction. It was very romantic and I couldn't me more pleased with that moment!!!

Ours wasn't fancy at all. It was 2am the morning of our 10th anniversary together. We were cuddling in bed and he just asked me. I think just because it's not fancy and doesn't have all the bells and whistles, doesn't mean it isn't memorable. I think I like our proposal more without all of the bells and whistles. It was a proposal only for us. It was memorable in it's own way. He also proposed without a ring because he wanted to make sure I liked it. So I spent a couple weeks picking on out afterwards haha. I sent pictures of the ring a month after the proposal to both our moms, and that about all we did.

Mily fiance gave me an edible on Valentine's day befire he proposed lol. I was getting impatient waiting for his kids to drop something off before dinner but they were taking so long and I was getting angry. He saw this and gave me an edible to calm me down. It calmed me down so much that when he did get down on one knee and asked me, I was pinching myself and kept asking if this was really happening cause I was so out of it from the edible. My daughter told him that if I woke up the next morning and changed my mind, that was on him lol. We are still happily engaged. 😊
