Anyone else struggling with bridesmaid dresses?

Maryanne, on May 29, 2019 at 3:25 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

Maybe it is because I have been a bridesmaid SIX times myself, or that I have such a specific idea in my mind, either way - I CANNOT pick a bridesmaid dress or even a color.

My dress? Picked in a hour. Their shoes? Decided overnight. Groomsmen? Decided over champagne.

Bridesmaids - forget about it.

I love neutral colors, and our wedding is certainly a traditional southern wedding - I'm talking magnolias everywhere - so I know that I want everyone in the same dress and same color to continue on that trend.

I am working with a neutral color palate, but I cannot find a grey that is light enough and I am terrified of picking a color that will wash them all out. On top of it, all of my bridesmaids are different shapes/sizes.

Then there's the cost - I am so conscious about their costs that I am covering their accommodations for the entire wedding weekend.

Someone - help! I had no idea that THIS would be the hardest part of wedding planning. Seriously, everything else is done except the bridesmaids.

I went with Azazie but it took me awhile to decide on color. I ordered 10+ swatches and 3 sample dresses. Ordering the sample dresses made it so much easier to see the color on a full dress! I picked the color, fabric and length and the girls picked their own dress. The long dresses were $89-$169. I told them 14 months in advance so they were able to take advantage of 15% cyber monday sale and a few other 10% off sales.

I've ordered multiple swatches from Azazie as well ( I think we're up to 12 at this point) but none of the colors seem to be light enough. Did you find that the colors looked different on the dress rather than the swatch?

What about a pale blush? Would that be in your color scheme?

I thought about that, but the boys are in Navy and I think that color match is just so common these days.

Are you dead set on them wearing the exact same dress and/or color? If not, consider letting them choose their own style of dress and shade of gray. Give them a store/shop (like we used David's Bridal) and tell them which colors from that store to choose between. I've seen a lot of ladies here post examples of bridal parties in different shades of a color and they always look great - cohesive without being matchy-matchy, you know?

I had a similar struggle with finding dresses to fit the style, size, age and color preference of each of my bridesmaids so I ended up doing the "mismatched but cohesive" thing and it really worked well!

Yes, my fiance is not a fan of the mismatched trend and I am compromising with him on this.

Order swatches of colors you're thinking about! Seeing the colors in person makes a big difference

Not sure if this is light enough for you but we did silver from Azazie.

I ordered that color swatch! What color were the groomsmen in? Ours are in Navy and I'm trying to avoid the "Dallas Cowboys" look like the plague.

Girl I feel you on this. I ordered so many swatches and drove myself crazy over them, and I THINK I’ve only just decided. I just made it more complicated for myself by doing multiple colors. Aside from azazie, I also ordered swatches from Show Me Your Mumu, Tulle & Chantilly, Revelry, and Brideside - I’d check them out if you haven’t already.

Other color options, if you’re not totally sold on grey - champagne, taupe, mauve/dusty mauve, or you could be bold and have them wear white too!

Holly - THANK YOU for having the same struggle as I am. I honestly felt like I was crazy for caring SO MUCH about how my maids looked. I also ordered from brideside but wasn't a fan of the dresses they offered. I will definitely look into the others! Thank you!

My cousin just got married, the guys were in navy and she used taupe from Azazie. Was this a color you tried? It looked fabulous with the navy suits and magnolia bouquets. All her girls were different sizes and colors and I thought they all looked great! I had also never seen that combo before.

Also, as a girl on heavier side I would highly recommend something with a more empire waistline and A-line for everyone. Examples from azazie include: Kaitlynn, Tanicia, or Chrissy

Do you have any pictures of the bridal party? I would love to see the color combo! I ordered the Taupe swatch form Azazie and I am just waiting for it to come in. Thank you for the style recommendations. My sister is on the heavier side and I want her to feel as beautiful as ever on my wedding day.

Totally! The dresses will be immortalized in our wedding photos for ever, so definitely a huge decision!

As of right now, 5 of my bridesmaids will pick their dress from azazie, and my MOH is getting hers from Mumu (she wanted specific coverage in areas that azazie couldn’t provide)

Have you tried Birdy Grey’s “dove gray?” It’s very light!

I'm sorry I can't find any to upload! My H must have taken them all. However I googled impage searched "taupe and navy wedding party" and the first 5-6 pictures do a good job of showing the contrast I think!

I haven't heard great things about that company. Do you have any experience with them?
