Anyone ever honeymoon in Austin, TX?

Mrs., on February 20, 2013 at 6:07 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 12

My fiance' loves Austin. I'm thinking about (as a backup plan) finding out about places and things to do in Austin that would be romantic. It wouldn't be far for us to drive if we can't find a flight at the last minute. I just know that things can and do go wrong at times so I like to have backup plans so that I'm not too disappointed. (especially when you're doing last minute booking)

I live in Austin and love it too Smiley smile How long are you planning to be on your honeymoon? There's not a lot of "romantic" stuff to do, although there are some really pretty parks and a trip to Mount Bonnell is romantic! There's a hotel on S. Congress called the San Jose and it's an amazing spot right in the middle of the city. The whole S Congress area is fun just to walk around and window shop and EAT. I also enjoy the nightlife downtown Smiley smile

What are some of the things you like to do together and I might have some other ideas I'm just not thinking of now?

We want to stay about 5 days at least. He likes to party but he says he wants to have romantic time with me for our honeymoon so he's not really worried about partying. I don't think it would hurt to be able to party if he so decides. I figure if we stay that long, he would want to party at least once. :-)

@Juliette. Thanks! I looked up Mount Bonnell. It's beautiful and has a great romantic story behind climbing the 99 stairs as a couple.

Can you split it up between Austin and San Antonio or did you want to stay in one place the whole time? Frederickburg is also romantic and not too far.

I found thses lists -- a lot of these things on the first one are outside of Austin, but day-trips. And there's tons of other day trips you can make. I forgot about The Oasis (out at Lake Travis, on this list) - it's romantic at sunset!

Yes - Mount Bonnell is fabulous and the weather has been great here this winter too (you probably already know that).

You could also look up what's playing at the Long Center, the Zach Scott Theater, the Paramount (restored old movie theater on Congress that's very cool) and the Alamo Drafthouse (a movie theater that always has special stuff going on, and the main one is on 6th street and you can eat and drink (full bar) while you watch the movie)

I think he would like the alamo drafthouse if I can talk him into it. We don't go to movies much but he does like to drink and I like to eat. lol

I lived in San Antonio and loved it! I would highly recommend going there. There is so much to do!! You have the Riverwalk with lots of bars and restaurants. The Tower of The Americas has a revolving restaurant and bar at the top. The Gruene/New Braunfels area has river tubing. Texas hill country is to the north of San Antonio with lots of wineries. There is also the SAT Botanical Garden and Seaworld.

I really cant say enough good things about Austin San Antonio and South Padre island its absolutely a great time. the river walk is very fun and their are many things to do. I lived their the majority of my life. Im a Texas A&M alumni. I would absolutely go. The hill country is beautiful like the wine country where I live now which is WA. I would go to San Antonio if my hubby wasn't so set on Mexico. Best wishes on your upcoming wedding.
