Anyone Flown JETBLUE with a wedding dress??

Sarah, on April 21, 2014 at 10:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Jetblue doesn't have hanging space. Has anyone flown them with their dress in a wedding dress garment bag??? Tell me all about it...

I haven't, but even if an airline does have hanging space, it is entirely up to the flight attendant on your specific flight whether or not they will let you put your gown there. I would be prepared to count your dress as your carry-on bag no matter the airline, and stow it in the overhead compartment if necessary. They do make portable steamers so that you can get rid of any wrinkles after you arrive.

I called them before I booked my flight and asked. The lady said a garment bag would be fine and to put it in the overhead bin. I happened to be on their website a bit ago looking at size of luggage etc. and noticed a blurb that stated it needed to be put in a suitcase.

Just called them again and said no on the garment bag. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?

Yes, my point is the airline can't really give you a firm answer whether its okay or not ahead of time b/c they don't know what other luggage will be in the FA's closet-- the pilot could have brought a ton of luggage and need to stow it there, in which case there would be no room for your dress.

I'd get a thin, foldable bag big enough to hold your dress if necessary, but can fit in your purse. Then, when you board, you can find out whether they do have somewhere to hang your dress-- if not, great-- it hasn't been stuffed into the "carry-on" bag yet, so it will still be wrinkle-free. If not, then you can simply put it into the foldable "carry-on" bag and stuff it in the overhead. You do want to be prepared for them saying "no" to the garment bag, b/c you don't want to risk having them say it needs to be put in cargo. And, as I mentioned before, you also want to be prepared with a steamer in case it does need to be folded.

It sucks that whoever you talked to gave you that misinformation before booking :/ I doubt you'll actually have an issue, its just that it is entirely up to the flight crew on your specific flight, so customer service can't really give you an answer either way.

Also, to be on the safe side, you may want to use a plastic hanger. Who knows if security would allow a metal hanger anymore. . .

My mom flew on with my dress a few weeks ago it was with Southwest but she had it in a garment bag...they even let her through with metal hanger. She just placed it in the above storage area once the suitcases where up.

By the way, you may also want to post this over at the forums at best destination weddings (http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/). The ladies over there may have some good suggestions/advice/tips for you.

What about using those space saver bags, where you vacuum the air out of them? You could do that, and then put it into a carry on bag if they will not allow it like that. I don't really know if/how they work, or if they'd ruin the shape of your dress? But it's worth a shot to at least look into.

That's it! The bestdestination forum has brides who have flown Jetblue and just left it in the garment bag. Honestly, I have too much to do tonight to sit and worry about this. Everything has gone wrong this week and this was just the icing on the cake.

@ Barbara- Thank you so very much.
