Anyone get gel fills (not acrylic but just gel polish)

Liz, on September 16, 2019 at 7:59 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 2 38

Hello! My wedding and honeymoon are 19 days apart and I been debating what I should do in terms of nails. I love gel nails because it is chip resistant for about 1.5 to 2 weeks. Some say 3 weeks but my nail grows so quick that it grows far from the nail line and starts catching on my hair everytime I wash it. Has anyone ever gotten gel polish back to back? Is it like acrylic where you can just "fill" with gel polish. I wanted to have a different color than what I will be having for my wedding.

I was debating whether after my wedding I should get the gel nails removed, then wait a week or few days then get a new gel polish (different color). I'm just worried removing it may damage my nails.

Just get your wedding nails then get a new fun color for your honeymoon! You could always do a polish change to save money Smiley smile

I get gel polish a lot. They have to take the gel off it you want a new color. I do it back to back a lot and my nails aren’t super damaged. You should be all good to get a new color!

That's what I thought. Like you cant just simply do a polish change since gel is cured by the uv. And its not quite like acrylic where you have a base before color. I might just get it removed and let my nails recover for a few days then get a fresh one for my honeymoon. Hopefully it's in okay shape after 😅. I've only gotten gels done once

Amount of growth in just under 2 weeks 😅 . This is why I wanted to see if I can get a new gel polish done before my honeymoon cuz it wouldn't last through my honeymoon.

I like gels better than acrylic but I wish you could just get a fill in. It would be so much cheaper!

I like dip nails best. They last longer than gel in my opinion.

I wear gel nails all the time. My nails don’t get damaged. Just make sure they’re filed and moisturized.

I exclusively do gel manicures, and almost always do back-to-back (they do the removal and reapplication in the same appointment). I've never had issues doing this and I go every 2-3ish weeks for about 6 months at a time. I've heard from techs that you should let your nails "recover" every 3-4 applications but I've also never seen any real studies to indicate that it's necessary. I'd recommend the removal and reapplication in the same appointment so you don't have to book twice! They also usually throw in the removal for free if you're getting them redone (at least they do at my salon). Good luck and enjoy!

Oh I haven't thought of that. I hope the salon near me does the removal for free too if I am going in to do reapplication Smiley smile

I try to avoid gel. It's not good for you. I did back to back gel exactly once, and it took a while for my nails to get back to normal

I only get gel manicures and they last me about 2 weeks sometimes longer if I really want them too lol. But I haven’t had a problem with them damaging my nails.

I’ve gotten a gel manicure every 3 weeks religiously for the last 6 years (removal/reapplication in the same appointment) and my nails are just as healthy as they were before I got gels for the first time. Just make sure that you are getting them soaked off properly and keep your hands/cuticles moisturized between appointments and you’ll be fine. I’ve also moved a couple times in the time/switched salons in that time and have never been charged for the removal if I’m getting a new manicure too!

Not at all girl!! I get gel nails and refill with gel all the time!! The only difference is to get the polish off they either have to soak them or use that electric file thing. But yeah, it's no big deal at all!! You should have zero issues with this!!

Actually, pulling your full set off every time will cause way more damage to your nail beds than just getting a refill!! I've been getting my nails done for years, regular polish then when they came out with gel, I switched to that. But I promise I know what I'm talking about and pulling off your full set every time is definitely more damaging than a refil!! All they have to do to get the gel polish off if file them. It's really no big deal, I promise!! Good luck girl, you will be fine!!

Are y'all talking about gel polish or the dip which is a different way other than acrylic.
The dip can't do regular but if you get gel polish on regular acrylic with gel polish you definitely can get regular. I'm confused, lol!!

My salon does offer a gel polish change. Basically they remove the gel and put a new gel color on, that is it. No trimming, filing or cuticle work. Back to back gel twice in a row won’t be a problem. If it’s catching your hair now it’s much better to have it changed or removed before you go on your honeymoon. I had an issue with one of my nails on my honeymoon (I tore under the gel while I was hauling suitcase around, so I recommend going SHORT for honeymoon 😁) and then I was too nervous to try and find a salon in another country to fix it up. 😓
