Hello! My wedding and honeymoon are 19 days apart and I been debating what I should do in terms of nails. I love gel nails because it is chip resistant for about 1.5 to 2 weeks. Some say 3 weeks but my nail grows so quick that it grows far from the nail line and starts catching on my hair everytime I wash it. Has anyone ever gotten gel polish back to back? Is it like acrylic where you can just "fill" with gel polish. I wanted to have a different color than what I will be having for my wedding.

I was debating whether after my wedding I should get the gel nails removed, then wait a week or few days then get a new gel polish (different color). I'm just worried removing it may damage my nails.

You must be talking about the dip not just gel polish, right?? Like I get gel all the time and refill back to back almost every time but I get regular acrylic nails with the gel polish on top. But I think your talking about a process called dip where they actually dip your nails in a different solution and just put gel polish on top, is that correct?? I'm so confused, lol!!

I'm pretty sure they are talking about the dip!! If you read all of the responses then look at the pic she posted, I'm almost positive they mean dip. Idk, read em and look at her pics and let me know what you think!!

Same here...I've been doing gel fills for years. My nails typically last a good 3 weeks with no chipping and I've never had any damage to my real nails. Agreed with Kelly you will be fine and have no issues with gel polish. I've gone back to get a gel polish change after a week of not liking how the color looked...you'll be fine Smiley smile

Yep! You can totally get them for your wedding then go back & get them again for your honeymoon. I always have acrylic nails but I got shellac on my toes and it literally stayed two months (minus growing out & cutting them)! I think the main benefit of gel vs. acrylic is it's less damaging to your nails. Just don't pick off the gel, have the salon take it off.

Yeah. I made the mistake last time of trying to save money and filing them down myself and using a metal cuticle pusher to lightly scrape of the remaining gel. It totally killed my nails and they were a bit weak for 3-4 weeks Smiley sad. I'm sure if I took them to a nail salon they would be more gentle with my nails. The things we do to save extra money lol!

Yeah I'll definitely not pick at it and let the salon take it off. Thanks Smiley smile. I never been a fan of acrylic. I only got it from prom back in high school but after that I never got it again.

It's not for everyone for sure! I bite my nails, so it's one of the few options I have to prevent that. It's for sure damaging to your nails, but I've had them on for 10 years so it doesn't really change my life if my nails are weak/brittle/strong/etc. since I always have fake ones on. I typically do an ombre french or just straight nude color. I had them extra long on our wedding day but usually keep them very short. I did white with glitter shellac on my toes for our wedding & honeymoon, it stayed super well through hiking & swimming!

Lol. I am not sure but I was talking about gel polish on natural nails. I don't like acrylic nails at all. I'm aware that you can have gel on top of acrylic as well but I hate the thickness of that. The thickness I get from gel is just right lol. I can't imagine how it would be with both

Oh nice. Its pretty! I think acrylic helps when you want your nails to be longer. Gives that extra strength lol. I don't like my nails too long. In my 2nd pic of my gel nails (the one where you can see the nail growth from the cuticle) I felt like my nails were already getting too long. For my honeymoon I'll definitely get it a bit shorter.

This is what I was thinking to get for my wedding. I'm hoping that they can do this with gel polish. I know they also have gel glitter polish so it should be possible... lol

Acrylics damage your nails a LOT.

When you get gel they always remove the whole color, they don't fill it.

I can usually get my gel polish to last a month if I am careful. But like a lot of other women are saying, you can always change into a fun color to make sure the polish will last during your honeymoon ☺️

That's amazing that you can get it to last a month! No matter how careful I am my nails grow so fast that there is a big gap between the polish and the cuticle and once that happens my hair tends to get under the gel when I wash my hair. I definitely will get a polish change for my honeymoon. Probably something with more color since I am going to Hawaii Smiley smile.

If your hair is catching on your nails you need a new nail lady. And getting gel back to back is easy, they just file it off and apply a new color

They can remove the gel polish at a salon and replace it with a new color all in the same visit. I’ve done it before! Gel isn’t great for your nails in general but neither is anything you can do to them really haha. It’s no worse to get it removed and then redo it a different color, I think 🤷🏻‍♀️ I got my nails done gel for my wedding and when I got it taken off they were verrrry frail and chipped easily until they totally grew out. But I don’t think I would’ve noticed that effect if I had gotten it replaced with new gel? Regardless they’ll probably be frail after and you should give them some time to breathe and heal afterwards but... I think it’s fine to do it for your wedding, then for your honeymoon, and then just take it all off after that Smiley smile they’ll always grow back!

I wash my hair EVERYDAY too Smiley sad. So you can imagine how fast my gel nails get destroyed once there's nail growth lol

Yeah. I'm not one to do gel nails ALL the time. I mean as pretty as it looks I can't afford it and neither can my nails. Usually if I paint my nails with normal polish I'll have it on for 4-5 days then take it off and let my nails breathe for at least a full week or more if I have no special events or anything to go to. I will definitely be letting my nails breathe for at least a month after I take off the gels from my honeymoon lol!
