Anyone have or having a house wedding INSIDE?

Anna, on October 30, 2011 at 11:14 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8

Getting married in Dec in Pa so we are having the wedding inside his aunts vacation home. Its a very nice home..we will be saying or vows in front of a fireplace. Its a small wedding..small guest list 25-30 people. We are having it catered but I still want it to have that "wedding" feel and not just a nice dinner feel. Some im wondering did or are any of you having a first dance...garter/bouquet toss...the normal things that go on in weddings? Are you being walked into the area you are saying your vows in? Having music to walk into? Just kinda wondering cause I keep getting the feeling from some people in my life that since its just a house wedding there is no need for the regular wedding things to happen. thanks for the advice Smiley smile

Don't listen to other people , it's your wedding. You should still have all the important stuff. ex: First Dance and Banquet/Garter Toss

You could rent a small dance floor and put the DJ in the backyard. Decorate with beach torches and candles.

Well, right now mine is supposed to be outside but with the weather you never know so am also planning for inside just in case! I am planning us to be married in front of our fireplace. My son will walk me down the hall into the living room to traditional music. We won't do bouquet toss or garter as everyone we invited is married but there is no reason you can't do that.

I am going to rent a tent (they are not all that expensive) and we could always use that for dancing if the wedding is moved indoors.

So have the wedding you want and don't listen to the nay sayers. Everyone will be looking to you and FH to set the tone/pace of the reception. Just have fun!

FutureMrsHodges, How is she supposed to put a dance floor outside in the middle of December in Pennsylvannia? If I'm not mistaken, it can get a tad bit chilly even if you put a tent and have millions of space heaters, lol.

My question is how big is the space? Is there an upstairs? Maybe you can get walked down the stairs and to the fireplace. OOH, think of the pretty garland that could go on the banister!

Will people be sitting during the ceremony? I think after you give your vows, you could clear the chairs and have your first dance in front of the fireplace. With a fire glowing, it would be super romantic!

@Nichole- Yeah we have a upstairs with a banister but when you walk down it it goes into the other living room area that wont have guest. But I do love the idea about garland in the stairs..didnt think of that! Also our guest will be seated and we are having a seated dinner as well. Thanks for your help!!!

We are saying our vows in my studio, then walking over to our home for dinner and drinks....all inside and about the same guest list size as your wedding. We are going to put some of the "extra" furniture in the garage to make room for everything. We are really not doing anything traditional like the garter toss or that kinda stuff....not because of room or lack of room...but mostly because we just aren't into that kinda stuff. I dont think people will feel like its a party instead of a wedding...they are seeing us exchange vows, thats pretty much making it a wedding...its a wedding because we say its a wedding Smiley smile

Do whatever wedding kinda stuff you want to do, it doesnt matter if its in a house or a field or a forrest or WHATEVER...its what you want it to be and you can do whatever your heart desires for your wedding!!

Was planning on getting married in a B and B. Didn't work out for us, but it would have been about the same situation. We were planning on having music for the walk down the aisle, but no dancing. We thought it might seem too much like a house party if there was dancing and too much drinking. Would prefer something more subdued.
